Alitalia Status Match

I was asking about a ScaryTeam option a while back. That being said I have no plans to fly that alliance.

Me either, I've always seen skyteam as a "junk" alliance, in general none of their airlines appeal to me and seems to be the token alliance if you can't get into one of the big alliances (and arguably the best) oneworld as well as star alliance having a good selection of good airlines.

Any airline program's status matched, other than SkyTeam Alliance members:

Thanks for the info regarding the status match. Applied.
Will be beneficial next month, got a few Garuda domestic flights.
Should be right for lounge access Jakarta & Denpasar, plus extra luggage allowance.

It's an outstanding alliance if you live in China. Otherwise it covers the globe OK (except Australia), albeit mostly with limited options.

I'm gunna wait until I get a card with expiry beyond 03/16 to get the extra year. I've been looking for an excuse to head back to China!

Anyone have experience with Alitalia? The 4 business class upgrades look very appealing if readily available.

I couldnt have said this better myself.

I've applied on 29 Jun, but still not received any response (same with AB). Would come in very handy as I have 4 inner-EU flights on AF and KL in October.

ON checking the Alitalia website it says Gold with any other airline only gives skyteam elite status which doesnt allow for lounge access. Anyone have more insight into this?

On the status match page it says Gold is matched with membership to the Freccia Alata Club.

The Freccia Alata Club page says it provides access to Alitalia and Skyteam lounges worldwide:

Exclusive Clubs

Seems all good?

Thanks for the info, however it says access to lounges by Alata Club members is when flying with Alitalia

For flights with other Skyteam member airlines

"On flights operated by SkyTeam Partners, you can check in one free extra bag, according to the regulations on the SkyTeam website or on the site of the Partner airline operating the flight."

Given this is the Skyteam equivent to being Elite, that website says

"International First and Business Class passengers as well as SkyTeam Elite Plus members enjoy complimentary access to most SkyTeam partner lounges worldwide"

Note that Elite plus is higher level than Elite only.

However maybe other members might have actual experiences which indicate otherwise.

Oh I see. So we can access Alitalia or Skyteam lounges when flying Alitalia but not when flying other Skyteam airlines.

That's a bummer. May still be worth it for the 4 free business upgrades.

That's confusing. If you check the Skyteam site (here: Check Your Frequent Flyer Status | SkyTeam ) it lists "Freccia Alata Club" as "SkyTeam Elite Plus" status, including lounge access, but I can't seem to find any restrictions how this would not apply system-wide. Ah well, will only worry about it once/if I am actually matched I guess...

Has anyone been matched? Way past the 5 working days for my application.

"Your status will be effective 5 working days after you send the request email and will be maintained until March 31, 2016. To confirm that your status has been recognized, you will receive a personalized email from your new Club."

i think its just bad wording on the site. You get lounge access across the entire Skyteam network, not just while flying Alitalia.

Also waiting for a status match from QF Gold, will be flying Vietnam Airways to the UK in September on personal travel and think this should get me lounge access and other benefits.

Re: Sky team Status Match (through Alitalia)

Did anybody else bother to request a status match for Alitalia?

Was mentioned in Aus BT email last week

How to get a free SkyTeam Elite Plus status match - Australian Business Traveller

Will let you know how it progresses, useful for Delta flights in US

Haven't bothered with Skyteam ever, but your comment about Delta got me thinking. Maybe will waste the time of an email one day - it said in ABT that offer open till end of year.

Re: Sky team Status Match (through Alitalia)

Just one word of warning re Skyteam lounge access. Officially, status only permits lounge access if travelling on or connecting to/from (within 24 hrs) an international Skyteam flight. This is different to star alliance and oneworld lounge access policies. Other benefits (such as luggage allowance, priority checkin/boarding) still apply on domestic itineraries.

Re: Sky team Status Match (through Alitalia)

I've joined and will try to obtain status, pity I wasn't aware of this a month ago as we flew with Alitalia a couple of times.
