The better half & I are traveling to LAX next week. We have been told that US Immigration have installed electronic check in booths similar to SYD.
Does anyone know if Australian chipped passports will work with the US system?
Thanks

Yes, they will (or at least mine did :)) but sometimes the queues work such that you still get a manual agent, not the kiosk.

You can use the kiosks if you have been to the US once since 2008, and have an ESTA (which of course you'll have if going to the USA).

If you use the kiosk you don't need to fill out a blue customs form, however you should take one when it is handed out as a) you could be put into a normal line as RooFlyer mentioned or b) the kiosks may be down and again you'll need to manually processed, so keep it just in case.

If you have entered the US on your current passport before you can use the kiosk but both hubby and I had fingerprint issues and even after we got that to work, we still had to go to a counter before we could collect bags and exit.

But... from exit plane to curb side was 25mins by memory.

The finger print scanners are a bit hit and miss. I have had about 1/2 hit rate. Although even if it fails you get shoved into a shorter queue and are out in minutes rather than the usual hours.

I used them last week. Took about 20 mins to get from QF11 to landside. Don't remember how long it took the last time I entered the US at LAX, haven't done that since 2011.

Ironically when I went through in June it was customs that had a good 30 minute delay where previously I'd always gone straight through.

you need to hold your fingers together with no gaps between for best results - I was shown how to do this by an attendant last year. It still did not work for me last time and I ended up with a bid cross on my slip.

Shall find out in a week!

We tried using them when we travelled to the US earlier this year. We'd both been to the US several times in the past few years but missed the "on the same passport" bit on the signage. OH had recently renewed his passport so he was knocked back - got the big "X" LOL ... but then again so did I, apparently because we were travelling together, even though I was using the same passport as previous trips.

This new system looks very efficient! I might not bother to renew Global Entry when my membership expires (it's hard to schedule the interview when living 8000 miles from the nearest enrollment centre...). I guess the only real difference now between normal PAX and Global Entry is the access to TSA-Pre security lanes.

Assume this is just a TBIT thing at present??
didn't notice anything at T1 when arriving on Norwegian last month

Used them in Miami this week with no issues and was through to curb side with luggage in 25 mins....will see how quickly it works in Dallas on Saturday:)

Yep, same experience at MIA last month

My quickest ever through DFW. Very clear lane marking; no ESTA queues; I was looking down when the machine took my picture - didn't matter!; customs queue for ESTA 2 people deep, 2 agents serving vs US citizens maybe 15 deep; through the lot to land side in the time it took me to walk it.

I have crooked fingers that don't lie flat so I struggle, had help last year. No joy this year, got the cross and took and hour to get through (customs is the easy part).

No problems with either passport or fingerprints, will give it another try in November when I'm next back. Same with mrseric
