Have just booked an OW award for the GF and myself over Christmas this year, all in J except for one final leg from YVR to PER. Managed to get from YVR to NRT in J, but only 1 J seat in to Australia on the 7th of Jan so have had to settle (for now) with QF Y NRT-PER.

I gather this is still on the old 767s - any suggestions on the best seat options to make this a little less unpleasant? Couldn't find much in the way of seat reviews or a map on seatguru.

Cheers,
Michael

The exit rows provide a little extra leg room. So that would be rows 34 and 35, seats AB and JK. However, you need to Qantas Platinum FF status to pre-allocate an exit row seat on a Qantas flight.

Seat layout will look like one of the ones here with 25 business class seats.

The "Best" Y seat on a 767 is definitely 24F. This is the second row of economy seating and there is no 23F in front of you. If you want to be picky the minor drawbacks of the seat could be the fold-out tray in the arm-rest and the possiblility of having your toes run-over by a learner on the dinner-cart.

Getting it allocated is the tricky part. On my recent trip to Manila I was allocated 25F (so near and yet so far) and tried to move up one row on checkin. The Qantas CIC (actually a bloke) had a go at it but then mumbled something about "BR" which I assume meant it was blocked for elites who may be slumming it in Y.

I wasn't too surprised by this news but was a bit grumpier than usual when boarding the plane, and my mood wasn't improved upon finding my bin full of someone else's carry-on. I tried the trick of rough handling the offending bags in the hope that the culprit would be uncovered, but eventually the cabin staff intervened and helpfully stored my bags 4 rows back. "Thanks for that" I said, with possibly a hint of sarcasm, "and can I trouble you for some headphones?"

"Why don't you take those?" she said indicating a pair on an empty seat, "I think everyone has boarded." The seat in question was 24F !!!

So ........ I replaced the headphones with my backside and had a very nice flight - especially as the middle seat was vacant. My assumption is that either they keep some of the premium seats back in case an elite wants to have it on check-in, or maybe they filled a last-minute upgrade from that seat.

I tried on the way back and again there was a lot of tapping before being told it wasn't available, but would I like an exit row seat (row 35). Of course I said yes and will admit that they are nearly as good. You do have a seat in front but with probably double the usual pitch.

Cheers,

Andrew

I covet 24F - but only on international configurations.

Having crossed the ditch between Oz and NZ about 40 times in the last few years, I was really p!ssed when they went to domestic 763 configurations.

Interestingly, it is normally listed as one of the seats to be allocated last; but if it was empty I was generally able to preallocate it as an SG/WP often months out.

Personally I think that 35AB or JK are the best seats on the 767s in economy; nice exit row seating
