Just made a booking for flights tomorrow and wednesday, and was presented with the below option:

Seat Selection.jpg

Does this mean advanced seat selection is now available on Virgin? If so ... :D

Not sure if this is the same for bookings further ahead - anyone care to check?!

I have never seen that screen before (even for a flight -24 hours). So I'm guessing it's available now.

And not only that, but based on the seat map I've got either a BSI or refitted aircraft on the way up to Sydney too...

I wonder if my good news day is all because of that email from "Microsoft" this morning saying I'd won $400,000...:?:

Just tried this and you can select seats from 14 days prior to travel!

Exciting times!

It's also available for existing bookings 14 days out from the flight:

Fixed is a relative term - only at 14 days out or closer seems arbitrary - step in the right direction though.

I could select seats on preexisting bookings within 14 days of travel but for preexisting bookings for flights more than 14 days away, I couldn't, and need to check back later:(. Whilst it is a step in the right direction, why limit it to 14 days, and not from the time of booking?

Is this a Plat / Gold benefit only?

That's great. Is the option available for all fare types?

It looks like it but may need someone to confirm.

My fare for next 2 days is PE, but my next booking in Nov has the button available and that includes both a Saver and PE fare, but as it's >14 days away it's not yet working.

Maybe with the changes to the DJ fleet happening, 14 days is the best they can do to ensure the type is likely to match the seat map?

Better than T-24 though!

All you need to do is set a reminder for 2 weeks before the flight.

In fact, I like the limited timeframe better I think, as most of my flights are booked closer to the time, so this gives me more of a chance to get a decent seat! I'm being selfish here of course :)

I was actually thinking that as well - frequently I find the aircraft are changed even on the day of the flight between -700 and -800 aircraft, although this seems to be less in the last couple of months.

I think it is available on all fares as I just selected seats on the cheapest fare (saver) available.

Looks like it is now available for all fares, just did my seat allocation for my PER-BNE Business class trip on Friday.

Wow. That's fantastic! Another step Virgin are taking to make frequent flyers happy. :D

This is good. Just selected 3D for 5/10/11, but cannot select for 17 oct. Says up to 14 days out.

This explains it all:
Advance Seat Selection is available for:

  • Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class fares excluding Saver fares.
  • Platinum, Gold and Silver Velocity Frequent Flyers and their travelling party when requested in the same booking
Guests can request seats for all Virgin Australia flights numbered between DJ 1 – DJ 2999 and DJ 4000 – DJ 4999, from 14 days prior to departure.
