Thought I would post this experience here as it's most likely relevant to people flying Air Canada.
When I arrived into YVR I was intending to take Uber to my hotel about 5pm on a Saturday afternoon. During the walk from baggage claim to the clearly marked share ride Uber/Lyft pickup area I tried three times to find an Uber driver. Each time the ride request came back with "We cannot find you a driver".
I walked back inside and along the terminal to the railway station. A quick google search showed the connecting R5 bus route I needed.
I tried three different cards, ING, Wise & Me Bank to buy a single ticket on the automated machines. Each time it came back as not approved. Weird. Stood back from the machines, took a breather and tried again. For good practice I put some CAD dollars onto the Wise card even though it should have converted it automatically. Successfully processed as a Wise Mastercard credit and it worked. I walked away thinking it was to do with not accepting "debit" cards for the transactions.
Train to city was efficient and I got off at Waterfront Station. connecting bus was about 50 metres outside the station. Connecting bus was about 10 minutes and I was on my way to the hotel. Bus stop immediately outside of the hotel.
Uber was quoted at CAD50, public transport was CAD3.10, 45 minutes for Uber, 90 minutes for train/bus combination.
For left luggage service on the day of my departure I used Van Bike Rentals located at Waterfront Station. When entering from the street it is located to the far left, kind of hidden from immediate view. It was CAD16 for two bags for the day. After I had finished my trips around the city, grabbed the bags and back onto the train to the airport.
