"You are in top 5% of Velocity Flyers." - and that is it??

Strange email today partner and I, and indeed one most of us got I am sure. (Do we have any ''top 1%'' members here?!)

Reminded us of how many flights we took and how wonderful Virgin lounges were, and gushingly advised me there was a 50% bonus points promo on we could register for (done long ago, and one NON Plats got 100% offered for as I recall!) and that was it.

Strange. Reminding us how much money we spent is not smart!

Now a one-off upgrade voucher, good on ANY domestic fare (as US carriers do routinely for elites with ALL upgrades) or something TANGIBLE like that would have been a REAL ''Thank You'' that would have meant something.

Actually it is the same promo. Red get 100% more than normal, WP get 50% more.

Where a red would get 2000 points they get 4000; where a WP would get 4000 points for the same flifht, they get 6000.

I got the same email, at the bottom they act like the 50% bonus is a reward for my patronage lol. My mother who is red and never flies with virgin was offered a triple points offer!

Pretty lousy 50% points bonus as a reward woo hoo..

I'm in the top 5%, 28 VA flights and a total of 71.936km. If they included my SQ trips would have made a big difference.

The points bonus is only useful on a getaway fare as you dont get status bonus. Per the T&C's you cant double dip so if you platinum you will get 100% bonus per status anyway, likewise if you Gold as your bonus offer is 50%.

Imagine if the email said "You are our 499,999th most valuable customer - thank you"

They must do some significant grouping because I’m top 5 per cent with comparatively little VA flying (by my standards and compared to QF) plus less than some of the stats that others have posted here

No idea how they work this stuff out, apparently top 2% with 29 flights, less than 20 000km, another part of the email indicates my points have gone up by around 242000. Not in the email however since late May this year I have clocked up north of 1900 SCs, put it all together and it makes no sense.

10 flights apparently, however I've done at least 14 so not sure if it doesn't count redemptions or connecting flights or something. Of course neither nor both of these numbers explain the discrepancy.
