Very interested in the lack of priority tags here. A major devaluation of the brand and a loss of something in premium cabins that I know a lot of people will not be happy about.

Given a set of circumstances where op-ups are being given, is there anything we can do to manipulate the odds more in our favour? Things like OLCI or not, check in early vs late etc.
Basically for op-ups it's all done via Altea (the checkin system), and it's all done based on your status then fare-type. Only done when Y is overbooked, and generally done -40 before departure, or if there are very late people to check-in at -15 (without bags).
Makes no difference what so ever if you do online check-in or are early or late.

What i did see recently which was odd, group of 3 people travelling to CNS, one pax was a SG, rest were nothing, all 3 were upgraged to J.. Forgot to check if there were any other status pax on that flight though.

Yes the tags will go, but i'm still unsure if they will get rid of the priority baggage though.

Thanks but the reason I brought it up was because we have someone from QF to anser the question, rather than anecdotal evidence.

QFCSA - were you referring to domestic? I should have specified I was asking regarding international travel. They're the op-ups you really hope for!

I was referring to domestic.
Same thing applies generally for international travel too. Last few days QF29 MEL-HKG has been oversold by over 60 people in Y, and only a hand full would've had point upgrades, so all the others based on status and fare type have the op-up..

This is sometimes only done about -12hrs.

Maybe they were all in high revenue fare classes.

eg. is a Plat Partner Gold separate to a Plat
is a 5,000 SC Plat treated more highly than a 1,400SC Plat
is someone who flew QF F SYD-JFK x times higher than someone who has earnt most points with AA/BA
how are other oneworld cards treated eg Qantas Plat v AA Exec Plat

What routes are most-common for massive Y overbooking (eg the 60 example for MEL-HKG). I am guessing the answer is most routes over school holidays where there is lower J/F bookings.

A WP is a WP and generally won't matter how many SC you have, same thing with Partner Gold, they would just be the same as any other SG

Edit: Also depending on how many J seats there are and if there are seats together, they will upgrade the single travellers first, then the people travelling with others, as then they would generally complain about no sitting next to each other even though they get a free upgrade and then play the DYKWIA card.

At the moment i've seen alot of MEL-SYD Y overbookings around 1700-1830, only around 20-40 as alot of those move to earlier flights due to flexible fares, and when they depart they generally have around 20 seats free!
SIN-LHR usually has a high oversell rate too due to a high no-show factor

The QF9 mel-sin and QF93 mel-lax have had a few over bookings (around 10-15) but not that many as J, F and W are all generally pretty full. So they would cap the amount of Y seats to oversell.

And lets say that Y is full (not oversold) and J, W is open, they will onload the staff with the upgradable fares into these seats. They won't op-up more Y pax to fit the staff on.

As for F staff travel, the only staff that have this are the Captains and GM's and some managers.

Actually that's very close to the mark. A passenger's rating is called a PCV.

Qantas staff can produce a list of prospective upgrades in PCV order called a "Proactive Onload" report.

Note the "Proactive Onload" list provides recommendations; it's still up to the person doing such upgrades to decide on how use the list if at all.
