So IHG is introducing a new brand Garner to fit below HI and HIE in price. It is going to be from conversion of existing hotels so not cookie cutter properties.

Garner-branded hotels will be located at convenient locations and will offer an affordable price point, the company said, along with a complimentary hot breakfast. The brand will be ready to franchise initially in the U.S. by early September, with the first set of hotels set to open by the end of the year.

IHG plans to grow the brand globally and aims at a count of 500 properties in 10 years and 1,000 properties in the next 20 years in the U.S. alone.

Here I was thinking HIE was intended as their more affordable brand. I wonder what the differentiator between HIE and Garner will be?

Ibis v Ibis Styles?

Pretty much almost every major hotel chain has announced some sort of new extended stay brand this year, perhaps getting into the budget market…

Unappealing would prefer to see more Indigos, not interested in the lower end brands.

Is Indigo is supposed to be somewhere between HI and CP? Last one I stayed at (Austin) was pretty cough, I don't really see the US ones as better than a HI.

It's quite obvious all these expansions are really about attracting more direct customers of the chains (i.e. hotel owners) and not really about guests at hotels. Finding lower price points for franchisees.
To me in almost every place I search it's hard to find a competitively priced HIX especially in cities. I think the lure of the free breakfast has resulted in a price spiral that has led to the affordable option becoming rapidly unaffordable unless it's a road side HIX in the middle of nowhere.

All the ones I've stayed in have been far superior to a HI or HIX (walkin shower, a la carte breakfast, great central locations, free mini bar with sparkling water) and even better some CPs I've stayed at.

CP tends to have a shub which is a huge turn off for me, especially given high price point.
