My wife and I are going to Rio (Brazil) and Buenos Aires (Argentina). Normal travel advice seems to indicate that Yellow Fever vaccinations are required for Brazil, jungle areas eg Iguazu Falls. My GP has stated that we don't require it for Rio and Buenos Aires.

Normally we would take the vaccine anyway, but my wife is pregnant and can't have the Yellow Fever vaccine.

I have heard it is required for entry into some South American countries.

Is the Vaccine required for entry into Brazil? And is it required for entry into Buenos Aires from Brazil?

If your wife can't have the vaccine then she should be able to get a waiver certificate which would be just as good.

Well here is the latest yellow fever update-
Immunise - 3.25 Yellow Fever
Now didn't visit Brazil but when we went to the ecuadorian Amazon jungle we had yellow fever vaccination. Not 1 country on our RTW trip looked at our vaccination status.

Agree with drron that no south american countries checked whether we had yellow fever injections or not BUT when arriving back home aussie immigration certainly did ask and we needed to show proof, which was no hastle, and we were quickly through...Am really puzzled as to how mosquitoes on the argentinian side of Iguazu falls dont carry the yellow fever virus whilst their cousins on the Brazilian side do !!!:)

Very true about the inconsistency between Brazil and Arg.

So not required for Argentina but required for Brazil...even though Rio is not in what's classed an endemic zone.
