Yarra Loop ferry service now on offer in Melbourne

Brisbane has introduced a free City Hopper ferry which runs up and down the Brisbane River between Sydney Street, New Farm ferry stop and North Quay via Kangaroo Point, Eagle Street Pier, Martitime Museum and Southbank every half hour for FREE, Zilch, Nothing! Not to mention that the views from the Brisbane River are much more nicer than the concrete jungle that is South Wharf in Melbs!

Costs the government 1.5 million per year to give away these free trips (and I dont think that covers lost income if a passenger would have used another service instead).

Really not that much in the bigger picture and keeps the tourists happy.

I took a trip on a similar service offered a couple of years ago, and it was a nice way to see Melbourne. Unfortunately it was very popular and the boats were full, so when trying to reboard after lunch at Docklands every incoming boat was full and we ended up having to walk back to find a tram. My advice would be to stay on and do the full loop. We had paid for full day use and only managed to get onboard once.

Given it's a trial, that's good isn't it? (not for your particular trip however).

I found it great before Christmas. Given the price of a tram, the $10 day pass was pretty good I thought. It's limited hours, pretty poor though and that definitely needs to change.
