There's been a few threads on adjusting the xONEx's with the recent price increase - I had thought of going via Indonesia but have done some research on starting in NZ. All seems good, I tried to get it to ticket with the booking tool on AA but it kept going to Qantas. When choosing the AA it said the due to traffic restrictions etc I had to use the operating carrier.

I know the way around this is to ring the AA ticket desk etc, but through ease of it all, I just wanted to use the online booking tool.

Mucking around I found a flight out of AKL to SYD (I want to come back to SYD before LAX so I can go on the A380) theres a flight on LAN metal. Also, when going through to the booking stage I see it gives a price in USD which when converted = about $10k aussie including all the taxes, charges etc.

(1 Adult(s) x (7,181.00 + 500.63) = 7,681.63 USD )

Firstly I have no idea who LAN is, google tells me its some south american carrier -but what I want to know is , will this all be good starting on them? is there any issue with it being ticketed on them? My first and only flight from AKL to SYD would be on LAN...

Im new to all this and have always just used Qantas, so my fear before booking may sound dumb.

LAN commonly are very late with this route and sometimes cancel the AKL-SYD leg. That said they have new lie flat seats and can be quite good. I wouldn't worry about flying them.

Beware the terrible depature time from AKL.

I wouldn't write off AA to quickly. Doing it that way will save you serious dollars.

Yeah, its a horrible departure time.

What are the consequences if they cancel the flight, will they stick me on another oneworld carrier?

Usin the online tool if i go straight from AKL to LAX it will book through AA in NZD. This results in:

1 Adult(s) x (12,499.00 + 1,100.30) = 13,599.30 NZD

using XE this converts to 10,684.41 AUD which is $600 *more* than the other way.

Will using the AA ticket desk produce a lower fare somehow..?

If it is ticketed with AA then the price will not include the huge fuel surcharges that QF include. It could be that the better AUD/NZD conversion is working in your favour here. Calling the AA desk will only allow you to ticket with AA whilst not having them as your inital carrier.

LAN should roll you over on to a QF/NZ flight in J.

So basically I'm getting lucky with the exchange rate, and I also have to consider if I book now, is it worth the extra $600 to get on a flight thats more reliable, and leaving at a normal hour! :)

Slightly OT as I'm not talking about ATW.

A bye line of the LAN flight though is that at approx $A600 return ex AKL, it is a cheap way to get QF 160SC. I have used it a few times to advantage. The 'O my God' departure time is actually advantageous if you have some onward connections.

So now my question is, by having it ticket on LAN do all changes need to be made via them? Or will I be able to manage my booking through Qantas online with my FF number?

Jumping onto this thread as my thread yesterday was deleted. Does anyone know the fees I'd be charged by LAN if I changed a travel day on a J return from AKL - SYD.

Thinking of flying out from AKL in mid-July, back in early-August. But if I decided I wanted to fly back later, what fees should I expect from changing a J ticket departure date? I would of thought it'd be the most flexible ticket, but I'm not sure.

Check the rules and reg's pages, a dummy booking shows no fee payable for any changes in J.

The trick to making it ticket through AA is making the first flight AKL-LAX on the AA codeshare.

Yes if doing online as the pages state the ticket is plated on whoever has the first flight with the exception of JAL who gets always ticketed on QF and somebody else. If you want AA and they are not your first flight then you need to call then and do it over the phone.

No fees apply.

Simply ring the LAN 1800 number and they will change on the spot and send an email update. I have done this several times.

I'm thinking now I might get AA to ticket it and pay the little bit extra. Doing a bunch of reading I see some people have had some issues with LAN when changing things. Seems that AA might be the easiest option..

Its amazing that its $1000+ SYD-AKL-SYD and $600+ AKL-SYD-AKL.
Anyone know why this is?

Thanks, I went through it again and saw there were fare rules. Good to know they're the right rules too though.

Sounds like it's going to be a nice trip.
