I'll hit 1200 QF SC's by October this year, with status year ending in Mar 2012.

My question is, what are people's recommendations once I re-qualify for WP? My travel profile is about 90%/10% domestic/international, all in Y.

For what I figure, my choices are aiming for DJ Gold, or starting to credit my QF flights to AA. When I fly domestic Y, it's usually discount Y when leaving, flexi on the way back.

Thoughts?

Will you have enough for Partner Gold?

Do you want to just bank the SCs above 1200 for LTG or something?

The oneworld redemption rates for premium cabins within AA can be much less onerous that that for QFF. (e.g. 17½K AAdvantage miles for any Business class one-way journey wholly within Oz/NZ)

I would put all O class red e-deals and flexi flights to AA. (N,Q and E class with QF flights numbers do not earn on AAdvantage.)

The only issue is that unless you have AA status, there is a 50% reduction in redeemable miles earned for O class. Those with gold or higher have a 500 mile minimum earn.

I was in the same situation as you and i decided to push for the 50k bonus points as it would be the most useful benefit for me. I have a 560k point target for two rtw J awards...

Similar to yourself i'm 80/20 domestic/International so most benefit for me unfortunately lies with QF.

I also figured it'd be easier for me to get comped in future years if I do this as I do enjoy the benefits from WP though i'd never go out of my way to earn it out of my own pocket...

I'm current booked for MEL-SIN-SYD-MEL next week in V class. Being discount economy on QF, this would only net me 70 SC's, would it better to credit this to AA?

Can you actually change the FF number online or do you have to call up to get it changed?

I won't get enough to reach WP+PG without doing some JASA's, which is why I was considering my other options.

MEL-SIN-SYD-MEL is 8089 miles.

V class on QF earns RDM's at 50%, so ~4045 miles would be earned.

As a WP, you'd earn 16,314 QFF points.

In reality it's borderline for an Oz based WP to consider AAdvantage unless they have at least Platinum Status with AA.

The old chicken and the egg conundrum! Have to get to AA Platinum somehow..

I'm due to go to SEA in October, should I hold off crediting to AA at all until then and sign up for an AA Platinum challenge? That's about the only way I can guarantee being on AA marketed flights.

Personally I cannot do enough flying to maintain top tier status on 2 airlines/alliances so if I was close to Partner Gold then I would push for it within reason.

I value 50,000 QFF points at ~AUD1,250 and Partner Gold for 3 years in a row is enough for a Oneworld award in economy.

Also my next target is to have a 1,000,000 QFF point balance on my QFF account. Currently sitting on ~400,000 QFF points....

JohnK, I bet you an enhanced bread roll that just as you hit 1M points, QF will change the burn rate!

Now why would you want to jinx me like that Russ?

But for me the thrill will be in acquiring the points not using them! :p
