Just worked out that for a person living in the US during the month of September, they can become oneworld emerald for less than $2250 US. Two SC runs in the USA, and one of the cheap expedia fares LAX-MEL-SYD rtt. If they were to take the flights in the first couple of months of membership they would have neary 2 years at WP and the following year as Gold.

Not a bad life, air fares for two holidays in the Caribbean in F and a trip to SYD in Y as well is great for only $2250 - but to be handed a oneworld emerald card at the end of it all as a reward, who could ask for more? Sure beats slogging your way to AA explat flying 100 segments or 100,000 points or miles (although AA exp does have a few more perks than WP)

I'm assuming the point of the lax-mel-syd return is to get the four mr squiggles?

correct, otherwise you can risk using a mule in AUS guess that you could get 4x75 dollar fares that someone else could fly, would make it $1664 but I wouldn't risk it as the T&Cs would mean that you card was cut up if management found out.

I would become a mule for any US folks needing dom sectors so that I can experience more window seat flying ;)

true... but... as you point out... the advantage of EXP is the 'free unlimited' upgrades on domestic flights, and all the 500 mile certs and system upgrades. If you were flying day-in-day-out in the USA (and all the irrops due to weather at ORD and DFW) then having EXP is going to help you a lot more than QF platinum.

kempvet,

Do you have anything out of DFW leaving the afternoon of 22 September? I could fit in a run and have an extra week over there.. Need to be on a flight back to PER by 29 Sep.. I could get up to LAX to start..

Cheers gogo

yes, will send a PM to you, there is a flight ex LAX back to LAX 720SC for 682 dollars during your dates, less than 95 cents a SC

I assume all these flights are on AA. ?? What is special about September ?? What classes are you booking in ??....thanks

The US flights are in F/J booked on aa.com and flown with AA, the LAX-MEL-SYD-MEL-LAX is with QF, guess that in the USA September is a little slow, summer is well and truly gone and the schools are back, usually the prices go up towards September as the cheaper seats are taken. As I live between the USA and AUS I watch the fares and specials a lot, and AA tends to repeat their offers at the same time on a regular basis, QF not so much.

I see your PM count is exceeded Kempvet - I assume because of your Status Run expertise!

I'm looking to requal for plat as early as I can next year (year starts in July for me) and am going to be in the US in and Oct. Was wondering if the Status Run you mention is available in October?

The best I can find is about 690SC for around 900 dollars. Do you have any hint about how I might achieve that little bit extra for that little bit less? :)

I'm not going to list specific runs in here (no one should, too many good runs have been made public and they vanish very quickly; airlines do monitor these places), but think west coast to Caribbean. Also, don't be afraid to search from airports other than main airport (as serfty has mentioned previously). Finding the fares like this is half the fun for me (knowing i've scored a bargain, and typically get a holiday in a location i'd not normally have gone to).

There is another QF sale to the US, this time its MEL-DFW on the QF site. The sale price is $1499 but on the expedia.ie site you can pick up a fare for $1034~ ex MEL in October. Don't know about other cities.

Having done QF7 (SYD-DFW) in whY, i'd never ever ever do it again. They do have the re-configured 747's on the route (with the A380-esque seats and pitch and AVOD) but there's no way i'd do it. 16 hours is just way too long to be stuck in that cabin (and it was chocka block too; they're really doing very well on that sector it seems!).

Good deals to be had too from SYD/CBR. And probably other cities too.

Did some dummy bookings for BNE/SYD/MEL-DFW after OCT11 to NOV and was finding flights for around $1000. Also $1000 flights in 2013 FEB. You have to look for when the flights are on sale. Even when not on sale, QF flights on expedia generally $200 cheaper to the US the QF main portal.

After booking all of our flights for our US holiday in August/September i have just realized i am still 320sc off qualifying for platinum. Does anyone have any tips for an AA status run that could get me around 400sc just to be safe?
