Well currently in Pilots Beach NSW on a break just south of Port Macquarie. Severe weather warning. Blowing a gale, driving rain, windows rattling. Sounds like a cyclone outside. Stuck inside - mini lockdown . coughpy TV cos the aerial connection dodgy. At least the 4G is stable. Hopefully the roof does not blow off. Down to last packet of Tim Tams.

No one here got a fever or cough. Yet...

Pretty sure it was the Chinese that decided quarantining parts of their country was a good idea.

Can't see any evidence of underhanded influence by third countries.

... SARS? Been there done that - CV? Who knows - time will tell - decision may be out of my hands - time will tell - you can move a mountain in 14 days

... would require SIng Govt to reverse their transit / entry restrictions so I can get home and No. 2 a pretty definitive acceptance that Coronavirus has pretty well been contained and infection rates decreasing - then would seriously consider it - right now I think it is a dead duck but never say never and we continue to monitor ...
What a fizzer. Was hoping for an interesting TR on China/CV. 😉

Well my answer is NO I wouldn’t visit China either - given how the situation has developed since my original post today I have no alternative other than to cancel flts MEL-SIN-PEK this Sun/Mon Feb 16 & 17 and ret Feb 23/24 PVG-SIN-MEL.

A huge shout out to my new best friend at KF Fatima who has been an absolute star over recent weeks shuffling / changing / arranging bookings and all the time hoping the situation might improve - both outbound and inbound rdpt bookings cancelled and understandably Cancellation Fees waived.

Also a big shout out to Bessie in Reservations at Portman Ritz Carlton Shanghai, Trishna in Reservations at Marriott Singapore and Alex Pan Manager Rooms at Renaissance Beijing Capital Hotel all of whom cancelled my confirmed bookings again with fees waived and ALL have promised significant upgrades when we do finally get back on the pony.

My pronblems totally insignificant compared to those of my great friends and major Manufacturers Charlie, Echo, Ada and Sarah who are desperately trying to get their factory open again to get product flowing to their customers all around the world whose businesses are also hurting through stock shortages.

And to my bestest Chinese friend Amy in Nanjing who is just at her wits end in trying to run her business and get product flowing to us whilst volunteering at her local hospital and a Seniors Shelter she runs in conjunction with some of her friends.

I gotta tell you our lives are so easy when you sit back and see what some others endure.

But please keep safe everybody and thanks to all who contributed to this thread. 👍

I seriously could have written a War and Peace version but above is enough for now - suffice to say as inconvenient as it is to us that is nothing compared to the average Joe on the ground in China - every member of the community is severely impacted - severely.

Charlie finally got the go ahead to re-open his factory tomorrow - his post today on WeChat is pretty powerful:

The pressure on an employer to try to get back to some sort of normality and conduct a business to generate production and turnover and at the same time protecting his most precious asset in his team of employees - and the kicker is that face masks are becoming almost unprocurable.

We are on the job in trying to get a supply of masks to them from here but that in itself not straight forward.

Two of my suppliers are saying they can ship on Monday 17th... not sure if that will happen

The whole outbreak seems overly sensationalized and the risk of infection seems low if one practices good personal hygiene (don't touch your face, wash your hands…). If time allowed it, and flights/hotels are on a fire sale to stimulate tourism, I wouldn't say no to going there. Though there are plenty more other places to see.
