This is purely a hypothetical question...

If you could skip the whole flight & airport experience and simply teleport to your destination for the cost of a flexible Premium Economy airfare, would you do it?

Or would you prefer to spend hours waiting at the airport and sitting on the plane, etc.? And why/why not?

Husband would I wouldn't. I want to do a 6 night Transaltlantic on a ship. Mr P can't understand why when he could fly there in a few hours. I'll tell him about the teleport and he'd be in. He has done an awful lot of flying around the world for work. I haven't.

It would depend entirely on choice of seat, what was on the menu and what type of champagne was being offered. Got to get the priorities right!!

So, hypothetically....

Say that it cost $1,000 for a one-way Economy ticket on Emirates from Sydney to London.

You could teleport or book Emirates Premium Economy for $2,500 one-way.

Or, you could book Emirates Business for $5,000 one-way or First for $7,500 one-way. Flying an A380.

Which would you choose?

Teleport for me. If I'm going to pay good money to get somewhere, might as well pay a bit extra and be there in a flash. Besides, it'd take away several days of transit time from the holidays (or any trip), giving more time at the destination(s) or back home. That's gotta be worth something...

Why do people still go by ship when a plane works just as well? I guess that's got to do with the experience.

But all this presumes we can't escape the idea that travel takes time. Teleportation changes that idea dramatically. A lot of people really just need to get from A to B, so they'd opt for the teleportation, although the cost idea might be a roadblock.

I'm assuming teleportation would be relatively instant. Unless it takes an hour to knock you out, a decent amount of time to scan you / blast you into particles and reassemble you on the other side, then some time to wake you up. And do the same thing with your belongings.

I know flights are not risk free, but I hope there's no cases of your shirt, pants or a limb was left behind on the other side (or teleportation interrupted due to power failure on one side), or somehow your body or clothes got mixed up with a fellow teleportee. What would delays or EU26x look like for teleportation? 🙂

Teleport for me. Why eat in a lounge when you could goto a proper restaurant or store at your a destination.

I would like to have the Marvel type teleportation where I can go where I want, when I want. Sometimes I just want to be in Japan for an hour just to grab some ramen on a lunch break :)

Intrguiging question, Matt. Teleport for me, but…

DSC on Teleport? Earn/Burn ratio? CC churn partners? Redefines RTW fares just a bit.

I wouldn’t be taking the Qantas Teleport LCC experience.

Oh and watch out for Teleport “enhancements” :)

Definitely Teleport.

I can then watch live sports games in different continents all in 1 day. Say I start watching Rugby Union day match in NZ, then Teleport to PER to watch AFL, then Teleport to India to watch T20, then teleport to England to watch the Premier League (or Europe to watch Champions League), then teleport to USA to watch NFL/NBA/NHL/MLB (tick your pick), all in a day.

What's the teleport lounge like?

There is no teleport lounge. ;)

You earn no points or status credits on the teleport option. ;)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'm really in two minds about this, personally.

As convenient as it would be sometimes just to get from A to B in an instant, I think I would miss the joy of flying - particularly in premium cabins, and when first class lounges are involved. I also think I'd probably miss the points & status credits game - although you don't really need status credits if you have the ability to remove the hassles of waiting in airports etc. in another way.

I guess there are also a lot of people that would baulk at paying $2,500 to get from Sydney to London when they could do it for $1,000 - albeit in a somewhat uncomfortable Y seat that you need to sit in for 24 hours.

I would probably use a hybrid - teleport when time is of the essence (e.g. if a relative was dying) and fly for enjoyment.

The vast majority of people would choose teleportation and plane rides would fall into the experience and/or short distance category where it's prohibitively expensive to set up the teleport for rural areas.

I'd imagine that long haul would disappear and only be left with short and medium haul. Many of which are premium cabin heavy configuration.

Maybe they could create viewing lounges from the sky. I'd probably see it like taking a cruise but in the sky.
