Would you stop over in Doha next week or not?

I saw that DFAT put out an advisory against stopping over in Doha. Want your advice. I've got MXP-DOH-HAN in J on 26 June2025 in qsuites.

I was able to get MXP-HKG-HAN but in
Y on CX. MXP-HKG leaves at 12.45pm and is 11 hours. So at least not overnight. What's everyone's viewpoint. Would you still proceed with the Doha stopover (award flight booked on QR months ago 😭) or do you think it's a no go.

I read the advisory and it said to exercise extreme vigilance. What does that mean?!! I wasn't planning to go out into Doha. Or do you guys think it's dangerous just to even fly over that area with the war going on.

TIA for any advice on this. What would you do?

Also with qantas gold could I access a better seat in Y? I can't change the frequent flyer number from AS as I've booked that HKG
flight with AS even though it's on CX. So I'll have to ring CX I guess.

Cheers

Not voluntarily. Too much chance of bad boom boom.

What does your travel insurance cover with the current unrest?

But even with TI there probably isn't much they can do.

'exercise extreme vigilance' is just an cough covering exercise by DFAT.

I have no hesitation in transiting through Doha in 10 days time and if I had to stay overnight, I would.

Even if you look at the politics, Qatar is a pretty safe place to be from the current nasties. political ally of Iran and host to an American airbase. Last time there was a spat like this I flew from Doha across Iran to Azerbaijan.

I appreciate that my risk appetite might be different to many people's, but I would be OK with stopping over in Doha currently.

The advisory is to ‘exercise caution’, it is not ‘do not travel’.

‘Exercise caution’ means be aware of your surroundings and the current climate… don’t find yourself in the middle of a protest, or in an area that’s going to put yourself in danger.

The airport will be fine.

I wouldn't hesitate at all. I just hope they don't make it a DNT and mess up people's travel insurance.

Would be more chance of boom boom in the west compared to Qatar. Not the country I’d be concerned about just the overflights in areas that are high risk with missiles passing through.

I would also travel to Doha with this advisory. As others have said, it’s just a reminder that “you’re not in Kansas anymore” and that you do need to be vigilant about where you go and keep tabs on your surroundings so you can avoid unpleasant situations. But honestly, there are parts of Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne that could attract the same warning. And especially as you were not planning to leave the airport precinct, I would not worry too much.

And great job getting the Qsuites.

Is Boris Becker making a comeback in the Middle East? All this talk of Boom Boom

Interestingly, I saw an "Escape" article yesterday referring to the DFAT Qatar update on the 19th referring in several places to Qatar Airlines and/or Virgin Australia.

At no stage did it refer to a similar DFAT update on the 13th referencing the UAE and Emirates/Qantas.

If you are only in the airport there should be no problems.
there is a chance Iran might attack the US tanim air force base but it is over 75Km from DOH.
