We travel separately frequently. Usually I travel first mainly because my partner might be finishing up work. Hong Kong seems to be the popular choice here.

I'm also taking a cruise without him. He's not a cruise fan. But another (female) AFF'er is also travelling on the cruise. And we end it in Hong Kong. Of course.

Sorry about the double meaning in my question!
On Singapore Airlines if there is one Saver seat in the class of travel we want and one the next day we have rarely gone a day apart despite the opportunity to save 200,000 points on the whole trip. I think it may be time to reconsider but without "splitting up" like Hvr was thinking.

This is the reason I had avoided this thread, in our case we decided to when we were overseas! but that is the lives of 2 WPs and that's how we decided to arrange it, better than goodbyes in an airport departure lounge..

To try to answer the actual question, no we wouldn't have but it depends on circumstances - I could however imagine having to do it. We preferred sharing the middle sleeper seats on 747 F, that was the best way to travel. Even got lucky when using points once and got 2x FASAs at JASA rates under a week out. Usually just paid for J and points upgrade on QF where needed. I think it depends how independent you are both/all at travelling... and if you long for some alone time or are joined at the hip.

I would travel separately (to later join us) from the good wife if there was benefit for us.

Last year I went to HKG with a mate. The wife told me to have a holiday by myself. She swans off to conferences in far flung places on a regular basis.

I usually travel alone. I usually get my way to/from the airport. Leaving someone behind in Amsterdam that you had a holiday romance was ... very difficult. We had our separate plans sorted in advance - I was off to Sweden, she was off to Hungary.

While we ended up meeting up in 3 cities (Amsterdam, Copenhagen & Madrid), we never flew together.

i don't know how I'd go but with the shiftwork I do, I'd be prepared to travel differently if the travel needed to.

What would happen if I like to fly VA & she likes to fly QF? *ponders*

I would, but Mr Katie would not. He can't get into the FLounge in SYD without me.

That was me for years needing the other half to Flounge (when I wasn't in First anyway as I am OWS), but on Sunday when I land in SYD I will be OWE, and therefore our next 5 trips that are booked all need me to guest the other half into the Flounge in Sydney. Nothing has changed. I still want to be there 10 hours before departure. The monster has been created

With the points factories being shut down right in front of your eyes the 2 day option could be a good one!

Would do and have done.
Leave a few days earlier, go to meetings/conference, mrsdoc flies in towards end and off for holiday.

Would have 24-48hr gap either direction if desperate for flight availability if original intent was to travel together. Would be very reluctant to split mrsdoc and myself if travelling with minidoc (soooooo much easier with two minidoc attendants!).

Mrs Reggie and reggie jnr pretty much always travel separate to me. Generally leave a week before me, and head home a week or two weeks after me. They don't time zone adjust as well or quick as me, and they get to spend longer away. That said, our trip next year in May / June / July, I may head over a week earlier than them.

Points factory is still in operation Flashback but I am thinking about getting more bang for those points without affecting in our travel patterns too much. Travelling out of Perth means isolation and limited airlines compared with the US and UK.

I would have no problem splitting the flights. Actually considering doing this for UK trip next May, book award seat now, and purchase other tickets when a sale is on.

Some years ago we were planning to celebrate our 30th (pearl) anniversary in Broome. Mr Julesmac would be in Perth for a few days at a conference. Foolish me thought well I'll fly from Mel, he'll fly from Perth, we'll meet in Broome. Nooooo we have to arrive in Broome together. Meaning, I fly to perth, THEN we both fly to Broome . Nightmare,. Arrived at airport at some God forsaken hour for first flight of the day, which was delayed due to ice. And delayed. And delayed. I finally got to Perth to discover Mr Julesmac had not been allowed to stay as his luggage had been loaded, so off he went to Broome. So I got to Perth - to find myself all alone. Qantas Club had to repel boarders as they were full; airport was chockers, I had to wait five (yes 5) bloody hours before I could get on a flight. Arrived in Broome around midnight.
In case you were wondering - it was not a happy anniversary.
Ever since then - we always fly together....

I fly F due to paid work. She flies Y due to FF redemption.
When travelling together, I always (strategically) find a reward flight for her on a different flight.
I tell her it is best we do not die together. However, the reality is, I don't want to give up the F seat.

Well I just booked a US run and we are still both on the same planes (not split up) with Suites on SQ. Sure it cost an extra 97,125 points twice but I figure that is the price for the love affair to continue.
