Off topic, but AF have this procedure where all the cabin lights are off for take off and landing. It's eerie and how the hell would you find an exit in the case of an emergency? I know there are floor lights but why would you do this?
Because in the unlikely event of an emergency cabin lighting may become unavailable. It's better to have your eye's already starting to adjust if the worst should happen rather than have the worst happen and also be completely unable to see. Plus I suspect there is certain lighting in the cabin which has it's own battery backup, it wouldn't give off much light, but it'd be enough to see by if your eye's where used to the dim cabin.
