I have never been but did research a few in Thailand.

Savusavu. No resorts for me, I stay close into town and mix it with the locals. Very laid back, you won't want to leave. Catch buses everywhere or hitch-hike.

Does it have a sealed runway or grass strip?

Sealed runway but you approach over the harbour, then cross a saddle in the ridge below the hill-tops, then drop quickly below the surrounding huts to the strip below which is a dead-end into the ocean so application of brakes as soon as touch down is the go. Highlight of the trip for me!))))
