The world's tiniest airline seat - the Skyrider | Adelaide Now

THINK your economy class seat is cramped? Take a look at a new airline seat forcing passengers to sit at an angle.

Due to be unveiled at a US aircraft show this week, the “Skyrider” claims to increase the number of seats in economy class without sacrificing passenger comfort - creating a whole new type of "cattle class".
Not sure if this has been posted before .... but oh my lord. Save us all. It would want to be a LOT cheaper.
Maybe I should reserve judgement, not having sat in one ..... hmmm, maybe not.

These seats would be useless, most LCC's already have their aircraft at the maximum certified seating capacity. Airlines would have to request for evacuation certification to be done at a higher capacity by manufacturers, which may have to add additional exit doors.

What happens with the munchkins under us. Can't see my 1.50m tall grandmother standing on her toes to fly Brussles Malaga every year.

Interesting design. At least it looks like it’s probably better for your back than current seats, might give people better posture ;)

This is the only time I'd say I wish there was one of those b*stard corporations who buy the patent for an invention for the pure reason to prevent its implementation. 'Cos this is ridiculous.

I've seen bus stops in other countries with a similar kind of comfort they are suggesting, and you can bet the house that gets uncomfortable after a period of time much shorter than one hour!

And for you fat people out there - this isn't going to make flying any more comfortable at all. Ditto really for tall people.

Although....................to be completely honest, no one has seen the design or a mock-up, so a bit hard to judge. I still don't like the idea, however.

Can you imagine the armrest wars, since your legs would be tired from holding your own weight?

Slightly OT, can anyone tell me why airlines don't have seats like at the movies where the bases flip up when not occupied? I would have thought that this is a benefit for everyone?

While I haven't got my head to the floor to examine closely, I believe the seats are supported front and back by the frame underneath. I know from watching Mythbusters, that the frames are designed to crumple in a crash to absorb impact and must, therefore, be carefully engineered. Probably difficult to do that for a seat cantilevered from the back edge.
