I particularly enjoyed the one in Switzerland and the one along the coast of Wales. The Switzerland one has long been on my bucket list. The Wales one I just realised goes very close to where a good friend lives and ends up in Shrewsbury where another good friend lives. I have warned them that when I can travel I will be visiting and catching the train

Switzerland has the most extraordinary train journeys. I caught the Glacier Express to Saint Moritz many years ago when I was a student backpacking through Europe for the first time, not realising that it was so famous. The snow capped peaks were perfectly mirrored in the still lakes.

A few years ago we caught the train from Venice (Venice biennale) to Kassel (Documenta) via the Brennan Pass, which is also gorgeous.

+1 and I did the Pass last year and thought it stunning.

The El Transcantabrico Gran Lujo costs €5,500 per pax (shared). For a 6-7 day journey, it is less than €1,000 a day!

There is also the El Transcantabrico Clasico (I think now called the Costa Verde Express to avoid confusion), which is only €3,200 per pax (shared). Bargain!

My +1 & I did the Bernina Express over the Pass last year. I wonder if Mr & Mrs Buzzard were following us around.

A great experience and quite inexpensive if you book following the tips from the Man in Seat 61: BERNINA EXPRESS from €29.90 | Switzerland's ultimate scenic train

I call that eye wateringly expensive - I didn't spend that much a day on my Antarctica cruise (and that was with a single supplement)

If in summer, even better, don't book a seat on the Bernina Express, but go for a local train with a panoramic open air carriage attached. We were lucky, as we more or less stumbled across it, it was an amazing experience and certainly the most memorable train journey I’ve had.
