Woolworths gift card thread

Yes, I understand that but I thought that EFTPOS was only available on a debit card. Are you saying there is an EFTPOS option for credit cards?

Yes. NAB credit card has CRD option linked to my credit card account, earn points and etc, it also has SAV option which is linked to my migrated Citi Plus account. In this case, if I were to get a refund, I could press the SAV button on the EFTPOS terminal.

I think he means the 'naughty' trick of tapping the eftpos card (rather than original payment method) for a refund

You won't be able to do that unless the staff has zero care factor. Staff will usually check the last 4 digit of the card number printed on the receipt, against the last 4 digit printed on your card.

That's getting harder to do these days with staff requesting to see the actual card number whether it is a physical card or the digital equivalent in Google Wallet. Bunnings, in particular, appear to have really cracked down on this.

That said, I was granted leniency the other day because I had closed my old credit card account and the staff member allowed the refund to a different card.

Trying to evaluate the worth of these EFTPOS cards as they may be used at my PO to pay Vic land tax. They're also handy for Aldi and other places that surcharge (leaving aside the above debate). I don't think I get Citi credit card points for paying the Vic land tax online or at the PO and the surcharge is ~$30. Can't use postbillpay (thus Paypal) to pay either.

So maxxing out the offer with $100 cards (ie 5 cards per day for 7 days) would cost ~$243 with an outlay of $3,743, and yield 17,500 QFF points and 7,482 Amex (Explorer) points - per EDR account.

So there's a nett cost of around $210 plus holding costs to get around 20k FF points (ie a tick over 15c per point). Not the cheapest points going. Plus there's a fair amount of time/effort required.

Not having QF status, I tend to use QFF points for Dom Y or Int partners which can provide worthwhile value imo.

I think it'll be a pass this time due to the effort involved and I don't have any trips planned where I could use the points (which brings the relatively high holding costs into focus).

I genuinely did have a card compromised recently so have had to use the replacement card for a couple of refunds.

But yes, I just use the same card and hit savings, which is linked to a transaction account, whereas credit button and NFC is linked to the credit transaction.

A PITA when I choose not to bring my wallet, as Google pay doesn't give you the choice, but not much that can be done in that circumstance if the matching card is requested.

Seems the EFTPOS cards are able to be used to pay some credit card bills at the post office, may explain why the $500 cards are no longer around for these offers...

The Visas have been coming round reasonably often and are much easier to liquidate as can be used online. The eftpos need to be at the company office/store or the Post Office

Very interesting with the NAB card

As an aside, wonder what happens if you part pay with points-earning gift cards and part with debit card (or low-earn credit card). The numbers would still match and might dodge the store credit refund problem
