I have changed my behaviour due to retailers changing their behaviour.
Buying up to $2,000 face value of Wish Gift Cards for $1,902 gets you 1,902 points on your point a dollar credit card.
At Woolies Caltex you blip the EDR then pay with the Wish Gift Card.
Then at Woolworths you do the same thing.
At Dan Murphys use the Wish Gift card and no EDR and pocket the 5% saving that no one else seems to be getting.
This discounted Wish Gift card works on liquor,and all the other Woolies divisions including Masters Hardware.
I personally value Frequent Flyer points at 4 cents retail value minimum as we travel in J on Qantas domestic flights.
Now if you add it all up you can see that saving 5% plus getting points to buy the gift cards and then EDR points makes for a great result.

I am now using National Seniors to get these Gift Cards so if you are young just enrol a parent at $60 for 3 years and maybe get the whole family onto it.

Tonight I bought 2 Coles and 2 Woolworths gift cards.
The Coles card expires in 2 years versus the Woolworths card being 1 year.
The Woolworths card is good for liquor and all of their group stores.
The Coles card seems to really just be a supermarket card.
Both are 5% off.

Become a member off the site Home | National Seniors Australia (if you are too young enroll an older family member). You can then buy up to $2k of gift cards that you buy at a discount and they get posted by registered mail to you.
The $98 saving just lowers your cost of living so it is tax free if you buy $2000 face value for $1,902 on your points earning credit card.
The selection of cards is better on this site than RACWA which I started with initially.
I must say getting about 13% retail value off fuel got one of my partners pretty interested as he tows a caravan behind his big 4WD.
Tonight I used a point a dollar credit card to buy those discounted gift cards.
I saw JB Hi Fi, BCF and others including Myer but I did not read those deals. I think JB is only 3%.

This strategy works well with a low point card.

With the Amex Edge Platinum you get 3 points per $ at supermarkets.

1 way to take advantage of that is to buy gift cards for family or friends so you can get the MR points. They still get the points on their purchases via the EDR or Flybuys reward scheme. Works if they don't care about earning points on a CC.

Yes if you go $7,600 for $8,000 (or more) of Wish Cards Woolies will take Amex on a direct purchase basis in one go so yes that is more of a business type of thing.
