Woman fined for stealing 1,000 pieces airport luggage

My first thoughts were:

1. Drugs were found at her home too, did she get a higher sentence for them and so this was considered worthless compared to those offences.
2. Maybe she had some sort of compulsive problem that although she stole property from the airport that did not belong to her, she wasn't even interested in opening the bags... she just had to take something? Seems to me if someone stole a bag from the airport they'd take what they wanted from inside it and dispose of the rest.

Maybe the authorities took that view that nearly all luggage has negligable market value.
I mean, my designer underwear and cashmere socks might have sentimental value but I'm guessing they would have negligable market value. Even my custom made suits would struggle to find a buyer. Most people place their really valuable items in their carry-on bags (I assume).
Would it be too long a bow to suggest that the most expensive items on the carousels are the actual suitcases?

Our justice system amazes me more every day. She received an 8 month suspended sentence and $950 fine! :shock: What does someone have to do to get a jail sentence?

Compare this to the $800 fine imposed ~10 years ago, fine could be much higher now, to someone I know for driving an unregistered/uninsured car....
