Re: Withdrawal of the QANTAS B747 from LHR-SYD or LHR-MEL routes? Fleet Developments

Joyce recently mentioned that surveys have indicated that the punters prefer the refurbed B744 over the A380

Yeah just gotta wait for enough of the A380 anti-hype to die down and a few of the old timers keeping QF financially viable to die, too.

Interesting... I wonder why that is? They can't all be like me and simply love the B747 just because...

I think they may be those people who prefer the wings without cracks ;)
I too love the 747 ( especially Zone A) and the A380 UD.
Don't like 777's.

This is why I now fly CX to MEL (& never to MEL via SYD) but I preferred the QF crew and service

Yet he continues to retire 747s.
Obviously the punters don't matter in his view of things.
Perhaps this is the problem.

In saying that, he did say refurbed. How many people have made comments about the quality of the older 747's, and how they are showing their age?

I've had the misfortune on more than one occasion to fly in CW on BA and found the set-up to resemble a zoo
Give me UD of a 747 or if not Zone A, J (Emerald city) in the A380 any day rather than that.
Think I'm a mini-cabin type of ogre ;)
But then i like the mini cabin at the front of a 777!As long as it gives you the letter F on the BP.

You'll find that BA CW 777 is a bit of an unusual set up. VA J on their 777s, for example, don't set it up this way (they are 2-3-2). TG J are 2-2-2. Several other examples do exist.

EK do 10 across in Y on their 777s, as do NZ in their new Y.

So nothing really about the 777 - it just comes down to the carrier.

Joyce definitely does not value the opinions of customers or crew. All constructive customer feedback is ignored. Surveys ignored etc. Loyalty is hard to gain and easy to lose and even harder to regain. A business model that does not respect the customer cannot be viable.

I do - I organise my flights to UK and US to specifically avoid the A380. Give me a 744 (with flat beds) any day.

Join the club. In cattle class, I'd rather queue behind (up to) 185 people on a 747-400ER than 330 on an A380.

Just to expand on the LHR crewing aspect discussed earlier, the guarantee of one LHR trip per day to Qantas long-haul crew was provided in the most recent EBA. However, it is contingent on a non-A380 aircraft flying into LHR. Now that it's all A380, QF long-haul have lost their trip.

Did anyone get on the last Singapore 747 flight? Would be great to hear of any experiences from the flight if anyone travelled on board.....
