Hi all,

Just a quick question:
Will you recommend me taking the following connection flight?

Connecting from Lan Chile to a Jetstar International (Domestic) flight from SYD to MEL?

I plan to fly the early morning LA flight AKL to SYD, and then connecting on JQ 29 from SYD to MEL. I sort of wanna pick this flight because it is still international to international and no need to transit terminal at SYD. However I am concerned that Jetstar does not have a transit desk inside the international terminal and I still need to clear immigration at SYD.

Thanks for any kind comments!

Yep will have to pick up bags and go through customs and then go back through the same process again. 3.45 hours is good time, but why not pay the extra dosh for DJ/QF and avoid the immigration?

Be aware that the recent on-time performance of the LA flight to/from SYD has not been great. And if on two separate tickets you will be wearing the risk of missing the connection. I am unaware whether LA and JQi have a baggage inter-line agreement that would allow bags to be checked through to MEL. If not, then any checked bags will need to be collect in SYD, exit through immigration and customs and then check-in for the JQi flight and collect your JQ boarding pass, complete with orange D sticker.

There's been a bit of discussion on this, me being one of those who had some trouble with a connection. Expertflyer has 61% on time performance with average of 54min average delay - so expect to arrive late :)

I haven't traveled JQi. If you did not have checked bags, couldn't you just use the desk below the QF lounges in SYD? That would work nicely.

Thanks for all your advice!

I guess I will try to stick with something simpler!

Thanks,

No, the only check-in for JQi flights is at the JQi check-in counters for the specific JQi flight.

Note that JQi check-in does not open until 180 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
