Will Qantas refund the fare difference

I need to change the date of an upcoming domestic flight. Cash fare, business class, no change fee or cancel fee, but the PNR has a DSC attached to it that I would loose if I cancel and rebook so I’d rather just change the date.

The new date and flights I’m looking at are cheaper than the fare I paid for the original booking. I know Qantas charges extra if the new flights are more expensive, but do they refund the difference if the new flights cost less?

Probably not but what does it say if you try and change the flight online pressing the “Change” button? Does it take through to the fare difference / confirmation page without having to accept the change?

That has been an interesting exercise! I’ve tried to do just that on 3 different browsers, at least 8 times, over the course of the morning and just got error messages, ranging from “ must change both inbound and outbound” flight, even though I only wanted to change one, to “no availability in cabin class on selected day”, when there is ample availability as a brand new booking. I figured I was going to have to call, so thought I’d check here first to see what the likely response would be.

After reading your post , I’ve just checked again, again using Chrome as the browser, and it does now put me through to the change page. It is listing the flight I need to change to and lists it as “+$0”. I guess that means no extra charge, but also no refund.

I've gotten a refund of taxes (automatically by the system) when changing a classic reward flight to a cheaper routing before, but I'm pretty sure I've never gotten a refund for a revenue flight.

Why not just call up and ask the question? Being a platinum, you're not going to wait that long.
