I could wait until tomorrow to ring VA service but this forum is probably quicker!

I got matched to Gold in October last year, made Platinum on December 29 and my review date was reset to December 2012. I've earned 320 SC since the platinum upgrade, but my status credit balance sits at 1,428 presumably from when I got status-matched in October and started flying Virgin big time. My question is do I only have to get 72 more SC's to have my wife comped to Gold? Or do I need 1180 on top of the 320 earned this year?

No , you need to earn an additional 1500 once you hit Platinum for Gold, unless you are being smart with family pooling.

As Markis said, no she wont until you earn 1500 SC's AFTER turning plat.

Right.... so another 1180 SC before December this year. Ouch. It's doable with the pooling I guess. Thanks for the fast posts.

You should have your partner as the miles/SC collector once you hit Plat.

I just have to make sure I get anough to requalify. All though I only need 480 SC and I'll be doing a J to Europe in the next few months. But that may be Qantas. :-|

I had the same question a few weeks back - did I have to earn another 1500 status credits AFTER earning platinum to get my other half a gold membership, or just push on past the 1000 threshold and hit the 1500 mark (ie only have to earn 500 more once I earn platinum). When i rang the platinum desk they told me it was the latter (ie once you hit platinum at 1000 you just need your rolling status credit balance to make it up to 1500, and you get the partner gold). The agent was adamant this was the way it worked - anyone actually obtained the partner gold who can confirm? (I'm still one trip off the 1500 threshold)

It has been confirmed previously by the VA rep that this is not the way it works.

Can anyone else confirm how this works? It will affect me later this year.

In any respect, it sounds absurd that you would have to reach an overall balance of 2500 status credits to receive a partner gold.

Thanks...just found the other threads. Am quite pissed off now - I was told by the platinum desk only a few weeks ago that it was hitting the rolling 1500, not an EXTRA 1500. Velocity's "teething troubles" are back!

I was told you have to earn a total of 2500 (or 2300 if already plat) to get partner gold. i.e. 1500 past the plat target..

That is an incorrect summary. You need 1500 SC's earned as a platinum. You can earn 1000 SCs to earn platinum THEN in the year you are re-qualifying if you earn 1500 you will get partner gold. The key point is you need to be a platinum BEFORE the 1500 starts counting and then you need to earn to earn it the 12 month requalification year.

Which is absolutely ridiculous considering you only need 1000 SCs to earn Platinum outright!

So the best thing to do is to set up family pooling to direct everything to your partner as soon as you qualify/re-qualify for Plat.

but you lose a lot of bonus points as plat if you do that tho.....

As i understand it, it's the number in the "Maintain Platinum" box that determines when and if you qualify for partner Gold/ Partner plat. The "Status Credit Balance" number is irrelevant.

When that number says 1500 = partner gold.

When that number says 2000 = partner platinum.

That is incorrect, based on previous advice from the VA rep (unless the number resets to zero when you attain/retain plat).

This will never apply to me, but just out of curiosity, it looks like that 1500 required after you reach platinum, is also your requal 800 SCs. Would that be right? If so, it would really mean No.1 plat requal - 800, partner gold - 700 (or partner plat - 1200), which seems a lot fairer and not so tempting to use family pooling and lose those extra plat points.

It does.

It resets when you attain platinum. It keeps counting for the 12 months as you work towards retaining platinum and once you have retained it keeps counting for the remainder of the 12 months. I assume it resets once again when the 12 months are up.

Yes, you are right about Family Pooling allowing you to switch and get your partner to gold or platinum sooner. I expect that some will take advantage of it but i also suspect that it's against the intent VA had when they set up family pooling. I do wonder if they will close that loophole at some point - eg. by saying that you can't change your family pooling structure more than once a year or something like that.
