I will more than likely not find out the answer but this has me intrigued.

Trying to book a BNE-BKK return in September and hoping to use gift voucher but that appears near impossible unless I accept poor flight selections.

Using return flight option BNE-SYD-BKK-SYD-BNE prices at ~$780 but available flights are very limited with Jetstar flights taking up 5 of the 10 flights on display for each sector. Outbound a very early flight connecting with early QF23 and then same on return on QF24 and only 2 early connections to BNE. If I want the outbound Emirates flights it costs ~$100 extra.

Trying multi-city booking and I can do BNE-SYD on Tuesday night, QF23 or EK flight on Wednesday and then return on Saturday the week after on QF24 and get here Sunday morning and choose any SYD-BNE flight on Sunday. How much you ask? A whopping $788! Why?

I really do not understand the limitations of the Qantas website. I know we have said this many times by why clutter the flights selections with Jetstar flights? Don't put stumbling blocks in front of people.

And silly me had almost the same itinerary on Expedia New Zealand last night ~$100 cheaper with 1 night hotel included and now it is gone. Cheap flights available on Expedia today are very limited. Is Qantas trying to sabotage its' own business?

Qantas is trying very hard to sabotage its business.

Trying to book a HKG-BNE return via SYD both ways and the website will not allow it. I can only book one-way via SYD and the return direct or via MEL. I can book via MEL both ways. I have tried on fully flexible as well and the flights still grey out.

Called Qantas who can see the issue but that is as far as the interest goes. The advice given is book HKG-SYD and SYD-BNE separately. Shame.

Is this a limitation in the fare rules? Doesn't make sense.

What dates/flights are you looking at?

Edit; I tried some random dates, and QF505/QF127 outbound, and QF128/QF512 inbound is bookable

Wasn't JohnK after HKG-SYD-BNE and vv not HKG-BNE-SYD that you have found.

He edited his previous post to include QF127/QF128.

I didn't think to check Expedia.hk and I have been able to find the airfare with L class outbound and Q class inbound but strictly only has one connecting domestic flight available too close to international arrival/departure which does not suit me.

I don't really understand why Qantas is having these issues. Everywhere I go their website and there is an issue. That cannot be good for business.

Hey John,

Probably better to try and construct your fare on itamatrix then yeah try OTAs like expedia. You may need to force stops and have them show separate flights on the expedia booking, but it will show as a connection if <24hrs on Qantas MMB. i've found orbitz to be quite good at matching ITA but is USD based.

Just call the platinum desk and get them to sort it out. They will waive the fee because it wasn't able to be booked online due to website error.
