Why fly business? I don't see the value?

When I mentioned productivity I wasn't specifically referring to a business trip Michaely, this trip was primarily pleasure. What I hoped to convey is that I did not have any down-time recuperating from the flight, and I don't mean for just that day. I kept up a hectic pace all week, cycling, walking, swimming laps each morning, and late nights. I was doing better than if I had stayed at home! Lol. I am now a 'J' convert for long-haul flights.

How many people book a lovely vacation and on arrival at destination spend a few days forcing themselves through activity on the premise they will soon get over the fatigue? If like me you are the other side of 50 why put yourself through that anymore, and how many international holidays do you have left in you?

If I have any reservations it is just that I hope my snoring didn't keep any of the other 'J's from sleeping.

Hi All
I have always wondered this - why do so many people fly self-funded business long-haul when it costs 3 x or more the cost of economy?
...are the people that self fund business travel just very wealthy, misguided or what?

Inane question that has an answer so obvious, it's complicated.

:D exactly. It's just not possible to backpack around the world and fly J, unfortunately :(
I disagree. I did it in Egypt, Europe (Italy, Croatia), and Scandanavia on my last three holidays with my wife. It was amusing to line up in Italy in at the business counter (respectably dressed in clean jeans and T shirt and backpacks), and have the check in girl tell me that the line was for business class travellers only. I said "yes" and stayed there. She told be again, and then checked the tickets.

Turning up at 2 star hotels with platinum tags probably seems strange. However, after staying for a few days in a 5 star resort on the red sea, I couldn't wait to get back to basic hotels. I couldn't believe people lining up outside reception to pay a fortune to catch a luxury bus into town, when they could walk 50m to the road and catch a mini-bus for next to nothing, and meet the local people.

I easily mix business travel with backpacking.
