Why budget airlines aren't for everyone

The only "LCC" I will fly on - and only when the schedule/price are better - is Southwest. That's a budget airline I have a lot of respect for.

I enjoy the flights with them a lot... but not the check in scrum etc...(I may be unlucky but I always seem to get rude check in agents with that mob!) Admittedly I am spoiled by being able to use the premium check ins/lounges etc with the *A...

AND.. when booking well ahead as I do (my travel is all recreational) I can reasonably often find fares that get me all my *A priviledges - for very little more than the LCC's...

I remain mystified by complaints of tight seating (more seats per aircraft) from folks whose MAIN purchasing criteria is price! Do they really NOT understand that relationship?

im all for low cost carriers...you just need to have a low cost mentality when utilising them

Last month had my first experience with Jetstar and Virgin. Previously a QF snob

Flights were both on time but must say that Jetstar was an all round better experience. For a LCC I liked their seats - liked being able to pick seats when booking - Checkin was pleasant and FA very nice.

Pleasantly surprised

Will use them again
