Why are Qantas not letting seat selection on one sector?

Booked flights to Apia from Perth via BNE. 4 sectors. Why oh why does QF not allow seat selection on the final sector BNE to PER?;stating ...seat selection on this flight is not available..Note: If you have a seat number already, adding a seat preference will cancel any selected seating for this flight. Online checkin for Qantas opens 24 hours before the flight, where we display the seat map and seat number.

That's just rubbish. Another reminder why I avoid QF mostly! 🫣

This just means that the available seats for bronze have been exhausted at this time.

Members with higher status may have seats available to them to view and select.

Indeed if you already have a seat number you shouldn’t select the ‘aisle/window’ preference as it does cancel your existing seat.

A friend of mine did that recently, lost their seat selection, but was then given the exit free of charge at in-line check-in!

It's business class booking. Maybe I should try and swap my QF to BA (Sapphire) and see what happens? Expert flyer seems to show row 1 blocked (I get that) and only one other seat available on the coughpy 737. .

I've got the same experience on my MEL - HBA booking for this Friday. Selected 3D on booking, but if I go to View/Change Seat I get the same message as you.

I’ve had that in the past (SYD-HKG, five months ago). I just left it alone. As it turned out, the seat selection was still there, but not visible in MMB, and it held. I have no idea what was the cause.

Same same in business, PEY or economy.

If you change FF to a higher status you may well see more seats :)

On the 737 row 1 is blocked for Platinum 1 and Chairmans Lounge, row 2 is blocked for P1, CL, Platinum and Gold. Everyone else can select on row 3.

So if you are seeing that error message it just means that row 3 is full and the rest of the cabin is blocked to you. At T-80 all seats will become available for selection.

It is not a Qantas thing, this is what most airlines do. If you add your BA Sapphire number you will be able to select seats in row 2 in theory.

AFAIK, pre T-80, NB/PS will see Row 3. SG/WP will see Row 2 and only CL/P1 get Row 1.

Also, if there’s more than 1 PAX on the booking, you’ll only see seats if there’s enough seats free visible for all PAX that are available to the status PAX on the booking.
