Who to fly home to BNE from Toronto?

Next September, after seven weeks away, it'll be time to fly home from Canada (Toronto).

We really want to do this with just one stop to home and it appears our choices are Eva, Cathay and Air Canada. It will be either Y+ or Y. We do not want to enter the USA.

For those who have flown further down the plane than J, what would be your choice? CX option looks like it requires a lengthy (16 hour) stopover in HK, not necessarily a bad thing.

Seat? Service? Food? Who wins?

I would choose CX, they have treated me very well as WP / OWE, even when I have been seated in Y.

Only problem is transferring from NRT to HND in under 4 hours. The airport limousine is easiest and direct.

By "just one stop" I assume you 1 transit YYZ to BNE,. The 1 transit does limit you options,
Understand not wanting to transit USA.
Very few airlines fly both BNE YYZ. So a PNR/ticket with 2 airlines may be an option. If want to take more risk 2 separate tickets a possibility.
PR Philippines is due to join Oneworld, but unlikely by Sept 2027
If 2 transits for more options. With 2 transits YVR comes in to play, Then QF, FJ CX in addition to AC
Maybe a itinerary for real real travel agent

Fly the "wrong" way on an ME3? Although you may not wish to go through middle east.
I'm assuming you want it all on one ticket? (Otherwise there's ways to book two separate tickets opening you up to other hubs).

But Cathay, Korean and Eva air would be my best choices. Korean Air I think is slept on especially for economy.

To the question about one 'stop', yes, just the two flights. No ME3 either. East Asia is our friend so far.

I'm looking for flown experiences. bAlt will hopefully still have Star Alliance SG through his soon to leave the country HSBC card. I have OW LT Sapphire so will most likely stick to someone in those alliances to get the benefits.

PR is generally good: it has recently been awarded Asia's most punctual airline.

Its fares may well be below competitors. Full service airline.

AC operates the 787-9 YYZ-YVR and YVR -BNE

They do have the 777 but these have a crampy 10 across in Y and AC operates these between YYZ and HND.
So because of that JL is ruled out IMO for HND-BNE as JL does not operate their metal to YYZ instead they relyon codeshares with AC.

The CX A350-900 YYZ-HKG would have more leg room and width than the AC 787-9.
IIRC, its an inch better in each dimension

Service/Food
IMO CX better than AC anyday
I think AC is too transactional.......

Overall
So I would recommend CX over AC because A350-900 YYZ-HKG and HKG-BNE, but layover at HKG should only be a few hours.
They have a twice a day service between YYZ and HKG. Other services are codeshare with AC.

PR does operate a one stop YYZ-MNL-BNE
However the YYZ-MNL is not daily
When it does it is the A350-900 on the YYZ-MNL

However the MNL-BNE is usually operated by the A321 - which will not have Premium economy
However, looks like an 18hr layover 0600-midnight
This means the total travel duration is shorter on CX but hey you get to explore MNLfor an entire day.
And the prices are competitive per @Melburnian1

I cant comment on service/food as I have not flown with them in the last 10years.

If you're on Star A or OWS then I'd mainly look at Eva Air and Cathay. Either are fine and realistically pretty close in economy.

I'd give a minor edge in HKG over TPE as an airport but it's not a deal-breaker. You can probably let price decide here. If Eva uses their 3-3-3 layout this has more room but i think is an older product.

3-4-3 a350-1000 is a reason to preference the other airlines. Especially the competing ones on the route.
