Qantas
Platinum
I reached platinum today after a 3 year break. Here’s me thinking prior to the magic moments, hooray. Now in the actual reality, thinking why did I think it was such a big deal. I may fly o/seas at least three times yearly. Two of the trips are New Zealand status runs on qf sales. Rest of sc’s are made up of domestic, some in business. I don’t travel for work, trips are all self funded. Booking some domestic flights today I can book row 6, in reality I usually can book rows 4 or 5 t80. I’m still greeted by name, if that is important to me, in reality not. I just want happy crew, to reach destination safely, eatable food (not really necessary as I can eat in lounge prior to flight), space for my carry on near my seat, to name a few. I have qc lounge access when gold. Currently in Akl flounce return to Brisbane. At moment few people in here, very quite compared to most of my visits to qf club lounge & at times business lounges. Although noise I can adapt regardless of gold or platinum status & whichever lounge I have access too. BUT I’m really looking forward to return to Sydney first lounge October trip.
Would I not continue to strive for the holy grail of gold, heck yes.

I agree - the only real benefit of platinum to me, is to avoid the horrid Qantas international J lounge when flying in J. :). Not enough to entice me to try and stay platinum. We have just achieved platinum again after a couple of years break and yes it’s exciting to think I can guest some friends who have never been in a lounge into the F lounge when we travel with them in August, but apart from that I am happy enough to stick to our lifetime gold for domestic and explore other carriers internationally.

I can see for some people it’s worth it - if you are doing a lot of international flying in Y it would have benefits.

All my business travel is in Y and churn a lot of credit cards to keep the points rolling in.

The main benefits of WP I find valuable are (in order of priority)
- Increased probability of successful upgrade requests
- Ability to request QF premium cabin award flights to be opened up
- F lounge access

All other benefits are just a bonus

Then you get close to one of the life time statuses.......

Just wandering

Love all the positive reports above. Wish I could do the same and now seek advice from evidently more experienced travellers. Recently flew qf09 and qf10 in the front, whilst registered for the double sc promo, but cannot obtain the double sc on my account. So far only the 590 have been credited rather than the 1180, which ought to have yielded a second 50 bonus. Any suggestions.

Ovtraveller, how recent was it? It does sometimes take time for the bonus SC's to be credited to your account. QF give themselves six weeks for it.

For the loyalty bonus you'll need "real" SC's and the bonus ones won't count. The T&C's for the April 2019 promotion (international saver fares and above offer) say: "Bonus Status Credits earned from this offer do not count towards Loyalty Bonus, Platinum Bonus Reward, Platinum One Bonus Reward and Status Accelerator/ Challenge earn requirements." and this clause has been there in other DSC promotions, too.

Thanks, tdimdad. Re dates: flew out 1 April 2019 and returned 28 May. Account shows 1330 sc, but includes only 1x 50 bonus sc, would have thought another 50sc be on the cards? Planning trip to FNQ, so will have to see what happens

Hi @ovtraveller , I'd suggest wait until it's 6 weeks after your travel for the DSC to be credited. Had the same experience with QF last month.

Flew out 23/Mar and returned 06/Apr and had the DSC credited only by end of May. Called up CC a few times, just to see if I could get hands on the DSC quicker, no luck. Was advised to wait until 6 weeks after travel date and give a call back if the DSC didn't appear.

So I waited for 6 weeks after my travel date and guess what? the DSC did not appear in my account.

Promptly called QF CC again and get the credits posted MANUALLY

So if you don't see your DSC land in your account after 6 weeks from travel date as the CC agent to post manually
