$59.00 flights for MEL to LST or DPO. with Qantas on sale till end of month. I could drink 60 bucks easy in the Qantas club before the flight. Could even take someone on a cheap date. LOL.

Looking forward to the DJ lounge opening in Hobart in Sept.

I haven't seen anything other than a '2013' date for the Hobart DJ Lounge. September would be great, do you have a source for that suggestion?

Mainlanders moving to Hobart need to be aware that as a rough rule of thumb suburbs north of Newtown and almost everywhere on the eastern shore of the Derwent have a very high Bogan factor. Real estate in areas close to the centre of Hobart can seem to be surprisingly cheap - but often that's the result of an unfortunate tendency among the locals to setting fire to their own homes. Caveat emptor.
my tips:
Look for a north east aspect (it makes a huge difference in winter);
find a place with a view of the river, not just because it's pretty, you actually want the winter sun to reflect off it;
Avoid valleys which don't catch much sunshine.
I've lived in many parts of Australia and Tasmania is in many ways the best of all. Compared to Europe and North America it really doesn't get that cold, but you do need to be prepared for occasional cold snaps, and the days can feel very short. The flip side of course is that we enjoy beautifully long summer days which seldom get too hot.

I thought that was what borgetti announced early this year when it was announced along with the extra flights.

All good advice. Winter is no worse than melb's eastern suburbs but summers are lovely, rarely too hot. Make sure your place gets sun. Some suburbs on eastern shore are ok - bellerive, lindisfarne. It's drier on the eastern shore compared to central and the south and you don't get as much fog. If you don't mind 30+ mins travel have a look at the beach side suburbs out east like roches beach, lauderdale, Carlton, primrose sands - plus ur not far from the airport.

Hobart to Perth Direct.
Noticed a flight out of HBA DJ 1779 this saturday 7/7/12. Does any one know if this is a new route or some sort of special event flight.

Rule of thumb: North of Creek Road is NO good... :D

Joining thread a bit late, but I spent most of my childhood and Uni days in Tassie. Lived in Penguin then Burnie then Hobart. Went to Stella, Marist and UTas. Now living in Canberra. Rarely get back there these days, sadly, but am forever glad I grew up there.

Like you kermatu - a bit late. Grew up at Turners Beach, basically left Tassie in my 20s, then when I hit 49 decided to come home and I am happy to stay. Sold my one bedroom flat in Sydney and bought a waterfront beachfront house with change. It's all about the lifestyle now, and it is always easier to warm up than cool down!

Good to be a Tasmanian ATM with the big increase in QFLink flights to Tassie especially Lonny :)

PER to HBA could be a handy flight as I might have to do it a few times in the next 12 month's or so.

And I know that goes against the ethics of this Forum as why fly direct when you can connect but I can foresee travel between WA and TAS.
