Hi,
I've got one quick (stupid?) question: I like to pick window seats to see nice views of the skylines I travel from/to :)
I'll have to do quite a few QF31/32 flights (A380 SYD-SIN-LHR) in the coming years and I wonder which side will provide me with the best views of these 3 cities?
Thanks!

The answer to your question depends on the winds!

Markis10 is correct about the wind and the runways, but given that your question is directed to a particular route QF31/32 you should consider trying for seats on the right side of the aircraft on the SIN-LHR leg of QF31 as most (not all) morning arrivals come in on the 27's at Heathrow so you will get views like this one pictured here: Photos: Airbus A319-131 Aircraft Pictures | Airliners.net

If you're unlucky and approach Heathrow's runway 09's you will see this out the right side of the aircraft. Photos: Airbus A340-313X Aircraft Pictures | Airliners.net From the left side of the aircraft approaching runway 27 you see houses, and approaching 09 you do get a good view of Windsor Castle on the left.

Departures out of LHR make little difference as you are up and away pretty sharp anyway due to the noise restrictions. For the SYD-SIN and SIN-SYD legs I wouldn't worry what side you are on. You'll see something out either side be it night or day!

Hope this helps. If your wondering what the numbers mean they are the magnetic heading of the runway ie; Runway 27L is headed 270 degrees and of the 2 parallel runways at LHR it is the one on the left. The other end of the same runway is therefore 09R. Have a look at the satellite pictures on google maps for more info on this as it is easy to understand with a picture.

Cheers,

Boof
