Which programme is best to join - Swiss or Singapore?

My son is about to leave for Switzerland to commence a 4 year degree at University. He is flying to Zurich on Singapore Airlines, but as his ‘hub’ is going to be Switzerland for the next 4 years, which programme should he join - Swiss or Singapore? We are a OneWorld family (I am Platinum) so we are unfamiliar with the Star Alliance programme. Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks, Muzz
