Which one or combined for a first visit?

I like to visit various places in Australia for myself. Not always for long, a few days per trip is good enough for me. Can always go back if I have the urge.

I'm thinking way advance. May next year. Probably from Sydney using Virgin credit card free flight from Perth to Sydney then onwards. Thinking Hervey Bay, Bundaberg, into one and out of the other perhaps on QF using Dash 8 (yes I like the Dash 8) or one way with Virgin to Gladstone to utilise the Alliance Folker then road it to Harvey Bay and dash 8 back to SYD most likely via BNE. Price is quite important as I get a satisfaction in doing it "best value". Points credits always good but likely more inclined with VA as I don't really always like QF in their jets but Dash 8 will always tempt me. Status ..Am QF Gold and VA Platinum.

Any words of wisdom?

I don’t know if it would interest you … but could you do any of it on one of the newish Qantaslink A220’s?

Admittedly it’s been years since I was there, but in the Back Then the only thing Hervey Bay existed for was as a gateway to Kangaroo Island. Is there other stuff to do in & around there apart from 4WD’ing now?

Bundy and Hervey Bay are both best with a car as things are spread out I don’t think either way to do it is better than the other

Fraser, not Kangaroo. Not K'gari either (in my book).

@PERLHR the timing will be critical. Try to coincide with turtle season - November-ish for laying, February-ish for hatching. Mon Repo near Bundy is a stand out. Day trip, or longer, to Lady Elliot Is on the cards, or Lady Musgrave too. Not much else to do round those parts but potter around the little beach towns. Good fishing aplenty, especially the barra fishing inland in the impoundments.

K'gari is definitely worth a visit but only if you hire a special 4WD in Hervey Bay,
4WDs from most rental companies cannot be taken onto the island.
Be aware that driving a 4WD through sand is quite an experience.
The east beach which functions as the main north-south highway is easy.
It's the dry sand tracks inland which are a challenge.

My mother's family comes from Bundaberg and I would give it a big miss.
Mon Repos (it's a French name so the s is silent but definitely there - it means "my rest") is interesting exactly twice a year: egg laying time and egg hatching time. But I wouldn't go there as the turtles are best left alone and tourism can have a dreadful impact.

Lady Elliot and Lady Musgrave are both interesting if you dive or snorkel.

I worked in Bundy on several occasions and easily found things to do. Bundy rum tours, Kalki Moon distillery near the airport, Bert Hinkler,Mon Repos and good seafood..

Oops, indeed!
Kangaroo might be worth visiting (been to Fraser - it was just a big super-busy campsite - you can camp heaps of other packed-out places without going so far outta your way).
