Which Flights Around Asia & A380

So I got myself; on the first A380 flight leaving Australia 26 Oct.
So my initial plan is:

Fri 26 Oct BNE-SYD JQ18 A332 (8:55am departure)
Fri 26 Oct SYD-SIN SQ381 A380
Sat 27 Oct SIN-BKK TG404 A300
Sat 27 Oct BKK-SIN LX182 A343 (1hr 50min to catch flight)
Sat 27 Oct SIN-ADL QF82 A333
Sun 28 Oct ADL-BNE JQ769 A320

Nice Airbus weekend with that intinerary.

Now SQ have advised that the first A380 flight will be Oct 28 SQ220.

Really tiring and I could be sick of flying that much.

What to decide or is flying between Singapore and Bangkok a really stupid idea.

And if I get a A380 safety card on the first flight someone has already put a bid in for it already.

Flights ex-SIN and ex-BKK (even one way) are actually pretty well priced normally.

I thought as part of the auction, SQ was going to give you an optional cheap return, but havn't followed the auction overly closely.

The other option is using Qantas points for an award back.

While I like BKK and find the hotels much cheaper than SIN, I would probably overnight/ 2 night in Singapore and then return back home. You're looking at ~ 24 hours flying just in the SYD-SIN, SIN-BNE type flights alone. In Economy, this is not the best fun possible.

It depends on what you're really after. Do you want to make this a big Airbus trip? Experience 3K/TG/LX? Spend a weekend in either BKK or SIN?

Hi Bundy Bear, I agree with Mal on this one. That's alot of flying in Y consecutively. Whilst it would be great to talk about, its going to be pretty intense and work on Monday might be a write-off.

I would ditch the BKK sectors and have some time in Singapore to see the sights and grab a nap. Both sectors will be a bit of a party so the last thing you want is to be asleep when the champagne is flowing. It kind of defeats the purpose.

I agree Littl_flier. Bundy, can you please include in the trip report (for my professional interest) the statistics for the A380 leg:
* runway clearance times, in seconds, for both take off (from release of brakes to rotation point) and landing (from touch down to clearance off the runway) [note: sometimes the stewards look at you strangely if you are intently focused on your watch, or running a stop watch - they wonder where the bomb is. You just need to tell them you are assisting in a research project for Boeing]
* number of passengers
* whether you could feel the turbulence of the inversion layer (say 300mtres AGL) on approach path

Yes - i have an interest in the flight accomodation and overall comfort too - but cannot believe the marketing spin on the reduced seat numbers and configuration. Clearly this is because the plane is 6 tonnes overweight and a full fuel load for Singapore - London means is could not get off the ground if pssengers were as originally contemplated.

Happy to oblige on SQ380 SIN-SYD 25OCT but being a TR virgin I will require some guidance on what details to include. I have noted Starship's operational requirements in detail and will pack concealable stopwatch!

Is a TR the whole trip from BNE on SQ236 in Y thru SQ380 in Y plus QF 533 SYD-BNE in Y????? ie: a good story book adventure read or do I just run around the A380 with a tape measure & a stopwatch????

Any input from you TR veterans will be greatly appreciated!

I have written a couple of TRs but am not a TR vet. IN my view a TR should reflect what you want to tell about the trip rather than what people want you to tell and how you approach your journey.

For as an accountant who wanted to be a writer the TR is an opportunity to try a narrative prose - to wite as I talk - a heavy dose or sarcasm, a smattering of moet and most of the important facts glossed over in a haze of G&T But that is me.

I think everyone (almost) here will be fascianted about every part of the A380 experience from boarding to deboarding/disembarking/deplaing/getting off the damn thing There will also be a lot of jealous people

I have been stunned by the detail of other TR's I have read on this (& other) forum/s which can include menu details & photo's of the carpet!
I must admit that they have all been a great read and I have waisted many hours in concentrated fascination.

It looks like a decent blend of fact & fiction might be called for with enough pics to convey the atmosphere of the flight & the Y cabin.

Well I'm definitely not a TR veteran but I'll try and give you a few suggesstions that I've picked up.

Overall, the TR can include anything you like. Feel free to included your land arrangements in Singapore if applicable and any tours you might take. The most important thing to remember is that it's your trip report so you can include what you thought was important.

Generally you would include the experience from check-in to boarding and comments about service onboard and memorable parts of the flight.

As Simongr mentioned, feel free to be comedic. Gold_Flyer over on FT wrote a magic TR a few years back (even if it was bordering on Fiction ) that engrossed FT and still gets regularly bumped to the top of the list.

Also feel free to include some photos but if you're like me and you're a little shy at taking photos on board, then some descriptive text will do just the same.

Most of all, enjoy the flights!!! Can't wait for another TR to read, I just wish there were more people who would write them.

Hi Bundy Bear.

Actually, the first passenger flight is from Singapore to Sydney on the 25th Oct, then Sydney - Singapore on the 26th Oct (obviously subsequently regular flights after that - Count Down To The World's First A380 Commercial Flight).

I was lucky enough to score 2 seats on the very first (Sing - Sydney on Oct 25th). Am flying up the day before for the flight of my life! I also, am opting to nick a few safety cards!! (although, I may go to hell for this!). Are you still travelling on the A380, and if so what date, still the 28th?

Ended up booking A380 returning on the 28 October. so A380 both ways, to SIN in Y and returning from SIN in J.

I just hope that we get to look around the plane on the way to SIN; would be nice to see how the rest of the world live in the front and on the top deck.
