Which economy seat should we pick?

Choices are 40J/K, 59 H/K or 60 J/K. For those of you in the know, what would you recommend?

My vote is for 60 J/K - one of you can have extra legroom and swap halfway thru the flight if needed? Also, no need to ask 60H to move if you want to get in or out ...

Personally, something further fwd of Row 39! But given that’s not in play, surely 59HK is the winner? No 3rd wheel in your row and lots of legroom.

Downside is it’s close to the loos and potentially a BABY! Simiarly, Row 40 - 2x babies - on a redeye.

I flew in row 40 earlier this year… originally in the middle seat 40B, but 40A was unoccupied after door closed so I moved across.

First off… these seats are SUPER tight (narrow).

I’ve never had a problem with ‘tray tables are in the armrest so the seat is narrower’ before… but on the 10 abreast 777 it is really noticeable. And I’m not wide - just average.

Moving to the window brought some relief, but not much. The seat is so close to the wall, and so narrow, that you lose any shoulder space, making it feel very cramped.

The 59HK might be ok if the outer armrest isn’t solid… giving you a bit more hip room, for at least one of you.

Thanks all for the advice. It’s an A350-900 if that makes any difference.
Oh, then it’s gonna be fine whichever row you pick. The seats are a good inch or so wider.

Sorry I didn’t pay enough attention to the seat map!

(but for anyone on the 777… the above advice stands! 🤣)

40 only because it is over the wing
Generally, the A350 Y seat width is slightly wider than the 787-9 seat width in economy
However the seat width in 40 is going to be narrower than other seats in the same cabin because if the tray table and IFE stored in the seat divider.
Still, it is going to be better than 787-9 Y seat width.

59 is a close second, or first for those who don't care for over the wing - same width as 40, no third wheel, and more leg room, but likely people congregating during the flight.

‘Day’ flight, kind of. Departs HKG 11:55(am) and arrives into Brisbane before 11pm

I sat in 60K here: Cathay Pacific A350-900 Economy Review

Great seat for solo, but as a pair it probably makes less sense. I guess with 59H/K, are you okay with potentially someone going out of the seat to your right? It's tight, but I could make it work as there was someone in 60H.

As above, all three options are slightly narrower than normal Y seats due to the tray table/entertainment unit not being on the seat infront. For a pair, probably would go 40 first (assuming there's noone else in your row), then 59, then 60. If one person doesn't mind less legroom and more seat width, then go 60 first. The legroom in standard Y on CX's A350s is pretty solid.

Thanks heaps Wilson. Daytime flight so we’re not too worried about the slightly narrow seat.

Depends how wide you are lol.

On the 777 even for a two hour flight is was tight, rubbing in to my hip bones!

The a350 should give you an extra inch.

On a day flight, I suspect row 59 will seem like luxury - a pair of seats together and no one in cooee in front.

I find the A330 bulkhead pairs of seats fine width wise. Hopefully the A350s are the same. Boeing aircraft tend to be a bit more squishy, so not a true comparison.

No idea what the actual tray table arrangement will be on CX but the AY A330s birds flying SYD-HNL are diabolically bad.
