Which are your 5 favourite airlines - and why?

The qsuite is showing its age, lots of scuff marks everywhere and some of the doors not functioning. The headrest!!?Goodness… it doesn’t sit flush with the seat! Not ideal in bed mode. The seat is hard, and lumpy. The IFE selection is maybe a 5/10. No armrests! And the bed itself is in the shorter side of what’s out there. Liked the air vents.

You obviously didn’t like what you found (in anything!) and you know my own preferences, so …

Personally, I love no armrests. More room when asleep and you can shove a pillow under your arm if you need it when sitting up. I was on a Qantas A330 the next night and the fixed up armrest was terrible for trying to sleep. On the non-Q suites, the arm rest actually can travel up and down.

Lumpy seat? Aren’t all airline seats ‘lumpy’? Being tall, maybe their choice of contours wasn’t right for you. IFE selection I believe is the largest of any airline out there. If TK’s happens to be larger, then that hardly makes QR’s poor. On my Flights last week I didn’t see any films that I really want to watch (I’d taken two flights only about 10 days before hand ) but I found some TV selections that suited me.

I use a pillow when sleeping so maybe the non flush headrest wasn’t such of a problem in bed mode. Never actually noticed that to be honest.

Edit: sorry that wasn’t meant to be facetious about pillows. It’s just that it’s certainly not a problem for me when sleeping.

The waiters will bring you drinks in the Al Mourjan lounge. The TK lounge at IST would be larger, wouldn’t it? No bar service there!

TBH - In dozens of lounge visits, I’ve never actually looked at the buffet - the à la carte is superb. If I only have a short time, that means I’m going to get fed again on the next flight.

PR enforces the experience on those that have flown but aren’t able to compare across a range of products?

PR? I think QR has mostly got terrible PR after the Doha airport incident. I’ve never seen any ads for them. I just go by personal experience and preference, having flown J on Qantas, Singapore Airline, Qatar, BA, TK (short haul), American and Finnair in the last 18 months. QR remains my first choice.

I had to choose recently between TK and QR for a flight to Europe late this year. I was keen to try TK long haul and looked at them side-by-side but again chose QR, slightly more expensive. I am trying WY long haul in in a few months so I’m not welded on to QR.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention the execrable safety video.

I didn’t find the QR IFE selection to be extensive? Certainly no more than what QF offers in terms of movies and tv shows.

Maybe the armrests are a personal thing! I’m not wide, so with a wide seat to start with, the armrests don’t get in the way.

Lumpy as in after the mattress was put down. It was noticeable.

Still, and objectively, the Collins Horizon - without armrests - is a better product… wider, longer, and more spacious than Qsuite… although not offering the shared block of 4.

PR comes from skytrax, media, bloggers and vloggers. None of them mention the malfunctioning doors or scuffs and scrapes on the suites. Or any of the shortcomings. Going from DO&Co on TK to QR’s offering was perhaps unfair to QR!

I’m going to be interested to hear your take on Oman Air Which i consider to be one of the best business suites out there.

I actually think QF made a good decision with their business seats… wide, fully flat, soft, and long. And with wide footwells. But agree they might lack the privacy some people value.

I was planning on trying the AY skylounger on this trip but changed last minute to fly LH via Tokyo, for perhaps a last hurrah on the 747-8 before they go to Allegris

I believe that's not correct - but can only offer a Google search to substantiate that, numerically. Of course taste in what's offered comes into it - QR probably needs to cater for a wider global audience than QF, which would be Australian pax heavy. I wonder if QR's IFE selection is the same network-wide, at any one time?

Well, scuffs are hardly a significant thing and malfunctioning doors (again, which I haven't experienced) presumably get fixed.

See, there you go. I flew consecutively Qantas J to QR J & VV over the past week. Found the QF impossible to sleep, with a 6:30pm departure and 2 hours to end of meal service (but the wide footwells get a tick), but slept as well as I ever do on the QR, eating when it suited my body clock. And the meals ... but here isn't the place for rehashing all that .<And I flew QF for an award leg-up to a cheaper QR onwards flight.>

Sorry you didn't really appreciate QR's various products - they are extremely popular for good reason. A second try would be fair, but I understand if you didn't didn't!
