Same here. Certainly another enhancement. Oh well.

Edit: Why can’t QF supply all major newspapers online rather than having physical copies at every gate all over Australia?

Luckily I have just checked into an Accor hotel, which also offers free access.

While we haven’t had an official explanation (oh how I miss Red Roo), I find the “poor uptake” rationale rather odd. For a free service that is offered pretty extensively - eg, libraries as noted above - what is really expected, from either party?

You still can use PressReader in the comfort of your own home. You just have to connect briefly to a PressReader hotspot near you, as described in my previous post today, then you can go home and download magazines for 3-4 days.

I checked this out today as I was at my local library. Login worked fine, however the access period must vary quite a lot between hotspots. I only had 3 hours access. Not complaining, it was enough time to get home and download what I wanted, but there is a big difference between 3 hours and 3 - 4 days.

I just heard from Qantas that they are no longer providing PressReader access due to the low uptake. Access has been closed since 30/09/2017. Can anyone confirm this? What a shame!
Thanks for reaching out and inquiring about the availability of PressReader for Qantas customers.

Unfortunately, Qantas has decided to discontinue offering this service to their passengers.

However, you can still enjoy our growing catalog of 7,000+ newspapers and magazines on PressReader a number of other ways.

You can subscribe directly to PressReader, purchase single issues of titles, or enjoy access sponsored by one of our other business partners. (In Virgin Australia and Cathay Pacific lounges, for example, or at thousands of libraries and hotels. See the HotSpot Map to find a sponsored access location near you. We’re adding more every day.)

Is that the response you received from a Qantas rep? Did they seriously suggest the Virgin Australia lounges as one of their business partners?! o_O

No Qantas reps in this mix... it's PressReader's rep suggesting some other of their own business partners, should people wish to continue using the app. I guess you could sit outside the VA lounge and download before moving over to QF... a bit of a pain for Sydney DOM though :D

Cheers,
Matt.

Thanks for the information.

I'm sitting in the lounge and I'm thinking it's time to download my usual dozen or so magazines via PressReader, and boom, nothing!! Has Qantas taken this away from us or am I just experiencing a technical difficulty? :(

Many libraries give you full access to PR - I also have access through the university library

Just found the loss of Pressreader, and enquired to Qantas and Pressreader via Twitter. I got the same response as from the PR rep above, and no reply yet from Qantas social media. Another Enhancement perhaps? Anyone getting a survey should ask for more glossy, heavy print magazines in the Lounges to take on board the flight:)

I actually heard someone in J complain about it this week. He was annoyed that the entertainment on board promise required him to have his own device and download an app (which he couldn’t do onboard before pushback). Heard him also say he tried to Download some mags / papers on PressReader which he had been promised but also didn’t work. The FA either didn’t know (my assumption) or chose not to tell him it has been canned. I was tempted to turn around and say so, but thought i had better behave as it was a long flight ahead.

Will miss pressreader when I fly again next week. Using a vpn on the Ipad, could access aussie papers
not available otherwise.
