Where will you be election day (Confirmed September 7th)

To partly paraphrase Julius Caesar: I went, I saw (the other thread) - and then I p*ssed off. Sheesh :(.

The OP starts a thread for a bit of FUN (repeat, FUN - for some to brag; others to drool – about where in the world is ‘Wally’ (ie. any of us) going to be on election day? - Don't worry The RealTMA, I will have been in Montalcino slurping the odd DOCG Brunello not long before) and it immediately gets hijacked by excited folk who don’t address the topic.

One thing my departed mum and dad did teach me is don’t talk religion and politics unless it’s with people you know you can or it’s in a forum specifically for that purpose. Whatever happened to those manners?

Why won’t people stay ON topic, I wonder :confused:.

Looks like I'll be in China unless the holiday schedule of my work changes (which it is prone to doing!). Would be very willing to chuck a sickie and fly down to Beijing to vote on the day as long as the embassy puts on a sausage sizzle. :D

Where will you be election day (September 14th)

I don't know where I'll be tomorrow, much less 9 months from now!

Now I live in an electorate where the result is already known it really doesn't matter.

I will miss not living in Eden-Monaro which is the bellwether seat of Australia and the result has been congruous with the winner of the election since 1972. (And this is the only thing I will miss about living in the CBR region.)

If you're in Canberra I suggest you go to the tally room on election night, at EPIC. I was there in 2007 and it really is an interesting demonstration of democracy in action.

Could we do a flounge run to get there???

Though the late 70's and 80's early 90's my Brother worked for the AEC and had the role of coordinating the set up an operation of the AEC National tally room. To paraphrase it was a bun fight for positioning/space between the parties, TV networks and general new media.

(FWIW, later on he was seconded to the UN to advise on running elections in places like Africa, before jumping ship and working directly for the UN.)

Bah Brunello! :) Try a good (they all are) bottle of Vino Nobile or better still 'Il Nocio' from Boscarelli and you'll be converted from the Sangiovese grosso affliction...

Not a bad OT post IMHO :!:

Where will you be election day (September 14th)

I am sure you will be able to stream Antony Green somehow.

He sure knows how to call the winner before anyone else.

I think we'll be in Adelaide. September not usually a travel month for us.

Thought I'd be in Brisbane again like the last federal election but then I realised I'd be back in Darwin a few days before the 14th. I did enjoy getting the voting out of the way early last time but still couldn't avoid the people shoving how to vote cards in your face.

Scott.

If things go to current plan, in DRW, so it will be postal or absentee vote for me. Is it possible for both sides to lose? :)

All 5 of us will be in Bali, one of our daughters will be in Europe for several weeks beforehand, so will need to look into how early pre voting opens for her. I think I voted online last time, is that possible or am I imagining that?
I think a trial was run at the last federal election for a few, although I am happy to be corrected.

Interesting as I was on the other side. The early bird gets the worm as they say!!

For those transitting SYD each terminal had a polling booth in the 2010 election. I have yet to find info for the other major airports but I suspect they will also have polling booths.

This makes a Flounge run a little easier. :)

The international terminals get the booth well before polling day, so those going OS can vote early. But it's important to note that these booths are land-side only (last time they didn't state this little detail on the info website). So if you are going eg MEL-SYD-OS as I did, you have to make sure you find the booth land-side at SYD international. I got off the QF transfer bus, saw no signs about the booth, thought it must be airside and went though migration/security. Wrong. They let me back however - much to the QF Flounge staff amazement. :)
