Staying in Sydney next weekend (17th-19th) - basically looking for somewhere close to the nightlife/harbor and that has a decent pool with a pool bar. Last place I stayed (Pullman Hyde Park) has a rather disappointing roof top bar which was actually more like a spa.

Thinking of just going with Hilton due to the location, decent price and Gold status but happy to take any recommendations.

Thanks in advance

It's not in the heart of the CBD but I'd stay at the Old Clare at Broadway/ Chippendale. There are some amazing restaurants around it, a great Asian hawker style strip there, cute laneways and right by Central Station and on main bus route if using PT.

Their roof top pool is picking up votes for being one of best around.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Stick with your Hilton pick.
Well I am not a regular CBD hotel person but several times I have seen the minature rooms that colleagues have been given & I think there must be something better (and I have stayed in better IMHO)

I have had many stays over the years in the CBD of Sydney and it is all overall very close so my best bit of advice is either book the hotel you want or the area you want to be in. We like Darling Harbour area so we have sacrificed a pool and stuff but been close to where we want to be able to walk to...

Park Hyatt if you want an epic location and pay with points. Or if you are rich. I burned some points when I had some Hyatt status and had great rooms for my parents and I - was an experience that not many people get.

I also like the Intercontinental or Marriot for location but have not seen their pools.

I stayed a night at both the Marriott and the Intercontinental using points this past year. I am more familiar with the Intercontinental as we eat there fairly regularly. Both places had friendly staff so I was happy with both hotels. In each case I was there for a last minute business meeting so I didn't need to stay longer.

Stretching my memory, but isn't the Hilton pool just part of the gym in the basement? Ie, fine if you want to swim laps, but not somewhere you'd want to hang out.

Your memory serves you well. I stayed there just over two weeks ago and the pool was really crowded and then a class with a loud stereo came in and took over most of the pool with their music thumping and echoing around the fully enclosed walls. I had to leave after 20mins it was giving me a headache. It was disappointing as one of the reasons I picked that hotel was so that I could use the pool for a bit of leisure and some comfortable laps but that was clearly the wrong impression.

Stayed at the Swissotel a couple of years back and remember it being a much better pool area, outdoor and the room was far better quality.

My office overlooks the Swissotel pool and it rarely has more than 2-3 people using it. Right in the middle of the city, great building, good restaurants. I don't know where you can get a 'pool bar'in Sydney City, though

Hi Parsonstrish
sorry if I am a bit late to the thread - but would recommend FS Sydney for accom views - and their club level has just been updated.

for dining I would recommend The Park Hyatt Dining Room - lunch :
LUNCH MENU One-course $42 Two-course $62 Three-course $72 Includes a glass of sommelier selected wine
© 2015 Menu - Fine Dining Restaurant Sydney - The Dining Room
We have been really impressed on the numerous times visiting Sydney.
