I would welcome any advice for them re where to stay ( $200-$300 price range ) and things to do.

The Marina Bay Sands, particularly the Infinity Pool, is a remarkable experience. Depending on how energetic they may feel after their flight from Frankfurt, they might just want to kick back and admire the views over Singapore while sipping on coughtails. The Gardens by the Bay is certainly another attraction they'd want to see and is within easy walking distance from the hotel.
While we did not use it, I believe there are also river taxis out the front of MBS, that travel to different points around the bay. This would be ideal should they want to visit Esplanade Theatres on the Bay, Merlion or dine at Makansutra Gluttons Bay.
With Singapore's outstanding MRT system, it is also a breeze getting to outstanding food markets such as Tiong Bahru, Lau Pa Sat or even Maxwell Street.
We always use the MRT for transfer to and from the airport when in Singapore and it has always been a relaxed and smooth way to commute.
