Where to Credit Turkish Airlines miles?

Hi - first time THY flyer.
Usually a QF/one world flyer.

Any advice on where to credit miles?
With the disruptions in the middle east, I can see that I potentially might have a need to fly Turkish in future - but I doubt I would be a regular flyer.

I was thinking maybe Qatar Avios for flexibility, or United MilagePlus for no time limit on expiry...

I don't really fly SQ or other Asian Airlines or AirCanada...

Which airlines let you use their FF points to book VA flights? I feel like this info should be easy to find, but I can't seem to figure it out.

SQ is best for compatibility with VA as you can link accounts, so you can transfer into VA if something takes your fancy. Having said that, it's also a harder program than most to achieve status in if that's important.

TK and QR are not partners.

Hmm not sure why I thought there was an avios link somewhere... Maybe I was looking at incorrect AI

So in general the idea is that crediting to Kris, then converting to velocity and losing the conversion value if you can't redeem Kris within 3 years - is overall a better bet than crediting to mileageplus or miles and more? (I'm not experienced with either of the latter)

Make sure you check if the booking earns miles. I’ve done a couple of flights on TK, admittedly on cheap one way economy fares, and the only program that it earnt miles on was Turkish’s own Miles and Smiles. If in business class this won’t be an issue.

How many miles are you expecting?

UA is not a bad option if you’re collecting otherwise orphaned miles. You can use them to book VA (or NZ, SQ etc) if you earn enough.

SQ is bad with a hard three year expiry. If you haven’t accumulated enough to use them, you’ll lose them or transfer to VA and make a small number of points even smaller (but if you have existing VA points, then that’s better than losing them).

As above, if it’s a whY fare, check closely what if any points they earn on *A partners. Otherwise, direct them to TK but I can’t comment on the good, bad and ugly with that program.

You can redeem VA domestic flights via air canda’s aeroplan, which in turn you can also buy miles very cheaply (currently a 90%-110% bonus)

And no hard expiry like SQ.

Aeroplan is a great program offering max flexibility and SQ awards should you be looking no to book SQ to Europe in future.

The problem I have with Star is that I keep ending up with orphaned points here there and everywhere - Aeroplan, TAP, Kris, Miles&More.... etc etc

Aeroplan i used to use them - but I have a lot of points with them and whenever I go to redeem with VA, the taxes and redeem rates seem very expensive!
I do like the ability with Aeroplan to reset the expiry as long as you have activity every 18 months.

And I guess with Aeroplan you also have the additional option for EK and EY ... which is a plus

I just wish VA would join Star, for me personally that would make them more attractive (although doesnt seem to be a likely reality at the moment)

It’s around $25 more in fees and charges to redeem on Aeroplan than direct through VA. But it depends how many VA points you have!

Not sure SQ’s taxes fees and charges for redeeming VA.
