Hi Everyone,

I am just about to hit VA partner platinum with another 3 months to go in my qualifying year. Any suggestions what I should do after hitting partner platinum? I am thinking about crediting points to KrisFlyer- I've currently got about 10,000 qualifying miles, and will travel Mel-Syd return on a weekly basis. I don't think you get great earn rate on KrisFlyer travelling on VA, but if I get 1 qualifying mile for each actual mile traveled, I don't actually think I will be able to remain my KrisFlyer Silver status. Should I just continue to credit my points to VA? At least I think you get better great earn rate on points which I can use on award flights.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Cheers,

Mike79

I am in the same situation, and after giving it a lot of thought have decided to keep accruing in Velocity. I am QF Silver and could easily reach Gold, and potentially Platinum by the end of my membership year, but I keep thinking that if (and it is a big if) Velocity introduces a further tier in their programme I would prefer that than QF Gold. I can't see any advantage in having elite tier in a DJ partner airline, I already get the recognition with them.

Why do I think there might be another tier? Virgin is still evolving, they need time to measure the success of their status match, their new partnerships..... They may end up with an unbalanced top tier. If that happens I would be dissapointed to misss out simply because I switched my earning to somewhere else unless there was significant benefit.

I have just ticked over to Partner Platinum as well, and I'm not sure what do to next... Prob do the same as koonyaflyer...

Hi Mike,

To my knowledge (and don't quote me), under the agreement with SIA you will only earn points and not mile to change your Kris status.

Not just an extra tier, but possibly life time benefits.

Any family DJ flyers? Family pool to them to get them status maybe?
No one in the family really flies apart from me - will get Mrs. Mike79 as Partner Platinum with VA, but in reality she would never use it. She only travels for leisure, and generally travels with me, so status won't really give her much benefit, maybe except for points bonus.

Agree with you. Although I was thinking about crediting status miles to SQ so I can maintain some sort of level with *A, as VA partner benefit is only really recognised by SQ and not other *A airlines.

However I may just keep building my balance with VA, as:
1. the remote chance that a new level may be introduced
2. points earn rate is so much better

Not sure but would think given you can earn VA status credit on SQ, the same would apply in reverse?

It's a similar situation to the alliance with NZ - Airpoints members can't build status by flying on DJ or VA coded flights. I think it's a Star Alliance rule.

Just had a look Mike, you can only build points with SIA. You will only earn status miles on SIA, Silk or Star Allianace.
