Where to credit a Marriott stay?

I'm staying at the Marriott for 2 nights in Miri, Malaysia in a few days; it wouldn't be worth me signing up to their loyalty program as I never really stay there but is there anything else it could be credited to?

Edit: it looks like I may have to join their loyalty program.. and then transfers the points from there to AA.

I really don't see the downside in signing up to free loyalty programs, especially when they allow crediting to airline mileage programs.

One other advantage is that membership allows advance choice of room type, pillow type etc and can sometimes earn you an upgrade. I joined the Kimpton In Touch program for my recent DONE4 (they have no properties in this part of the world) and scored a suite upgrade in YVR solely on the basis of my membership.

Likewise when I stayed at the Fairmont in Singapore, received a room upgrade and also complimentary internet access (thank goodness, as it would have cost $180/week otherwise!).

What did you decide in the end? With QF you would have earned 1,000 QFF points unless the Marriot property is included in the list below.
