Hi All,

I am flying MNL-SIN in J then SIN-JFK in Suites this afternoon. Seperate bookings, as made via website in different cabin classes.

I was hoping to get access to TPR for my 4 hour stopover - would I be best checking in for both flights here in Manila, or checkin for the SIN-JFK flight at the transfer desk in Singapore?

I was thinking more chance of getting the pass in Singapore...Or maybe if they see that I am flying Suites (redemption though) at the SKL they may upgrade me to TPR there?

Any experience/thoughts?

Cheers,

Peter

MNL airport is always crazy on a Sunday.

Get there early is my hint

I guess TPR is not "Tom Price, WA"? ...

Not unless SQ is flying the A380 out of there now...:p

Agreed - 5th time out of MNL on a Sunday this year - have been fine arriving 2 hours out... Though I read in the newspaper this week that they are advising 3 hours now because of traffic congestion near to departures. Last time there my taxi driver took a neat shortcut/longcut....that saved us 20minutes of waiting in traffic.

So what's TPR for us non SQ fliers?

Sorry guys - The Private Room - lounge level above SQ's First Class Lounge. Invitation only, normally for revenue passengers travelling in long haul First only, though lately I have been reading reports of First Class redemption bookings getting access....

I got TPR access last year on a SQ F Saver redemption. I think they changed the rules to that effect a couple of years ago (after setting an initial precedent of not allowing access for award pax). (I had to check-in at SIN, however, because my positioning flight there was on JQ :p)

My take would be to just check-in all the way at MNL. Turn up at the SKL / TPR and present your onward BP; if you're not allowed access, go back to the transfer desk and explain the situation so they can fix you up.

I can't see SQ being silly about this at SIN; if you are in F then it should be obvious you're allowed in (although I am aware that invitations are definitely issued at SIN).

P.S. well done on the R redemption - not easy! (I'm guessing it was through an upgauge of equipment)

Thanks Anat0l,

OK - will do this - feel a bit more confident getting verification the Award F is getting access.

Yes, not too sure what the story is with R redemptions - have been reading sporadic reports of people getting them as Standard points redemptions. Believe it or not, I booked this one on Thursday night (3 days out!). When selecting seats, only 5/12 load (including me) so perhaps they are releasing them closer to departure when light loads....

Or maybe it's just a glitch on the SQ website (/sarcasm)

Last time I was there TPR access gets granted automatically upon presentation of a departing F boarding pass.

Upon return, my arriving F boarding pass stub (I was then departing on J, only got me into the F lounge.

Please update the forum on your experience - salamat!

You only need an onward SQ F or R BP to get into TPR.
So no worries you'll get in.
Enjoy, especially the Foie Gras burger.

Thankyou Po ;) Just arrived here now.. very nice! Shame that it's an overnight flight to FRA - I'm gonna miss out on precious Krug time sleeping....

Enjoy, especially the Foie Gras burger.

Sounds like a must have! Just having a quick on arrival champers, hit the showers, then do some damage to the menu....

I can vouch for the foie gras burger - quite nice, though it is foie gras, so steel yourself appropriately in the health department!

The satay is not too bad either if it is done and eaten right away. More a novelty than a premium, but at least it is (at least from my last experience) done well.

Ice cream in the lounge is Ben and Jerry's - just so you know :)

I think it's funny how the title of this thread had to be amended with an explanation of what TPR was :p Probably an addition to the Abbreviations thread might be in order, too

Having endured awful Jolibee burgers, Kenny Rogers Roasters and McDo in MNL in the last week - this burger was on a whole different planet!!

Ice cream in the lounge is Ben and Jerry's - just so you know :)

Literally just finished my last spoon of Cookie Dough Icecream and your post popped up - and that exact query was in my mind!!!

A little less than 2 hours to boarding, just hope I don't fall asleep too quickly! I was nodding off MNL-SIN segment....

Cheers

Pete

Just ask for lobster (and hold the trimmings)... :)

You can access TPR 48-Hours prior to you onward flight. We did a 30+ hour stopover in Singapore on a MEL-SIN-FRA last year, arriving 6am on SQ218 then fly out on SQ26 the next day. We stayed at Transit Hotel and used TPR like our kitchen/luggage holding facility. Then go in/out Changi to Singapore for lots of shopping, and check-in further 2 pieces of bags (bought and filled in Singapore).

Note: Go for Singapore French Toast for breakfast with side order of freshly sliced mango.... YUM!!!

So, just completed my SIN-FRA-JFK flight in Suites. Maybe I'm becoming jaded with a lot of long haul travel lately, and perhaps my expectations were very high, but the experience wasn't quite as stellar as I had hoped for. Having said that, it really is an entirely different way of travel....

Here are some brief thoughts on the experience.

No caviar appetizer on either segment!! - What is the world coming to...

First item on the 'Snack' section of the menu was 'Chicken Instant Noodles or flavour of the month' - WTF, I wouldn't want to pay mega bucks for Suites and eat instant noodles!!

SQ are featuring Asparagus on their seasonal menu - after 10+ SQ flights in the last 30 days, if I have to eat (and smell if you know what I mean) another Asparagii I'm gonna have an adverse reaction.

I found the service a little 'perfunctory' particularly on the FRA-JFK segment. Not really much difference in service level to what you get in J on SQ.

I know the rules, but it irks me when you get a minor scolding for using iPad/headset when still at gate but with door closed 'Sir, the doors are closed, please turn off your PED'... Or being told to stop using your PED 40 minutes from landing. I can understand in Y when you have 200 so pax to sort out, but surely in First with 4 pax you could let use continue a little longer.

I had seat 4A booked, when I boarded the hostess suggested I move to 1F as it is more private - in actual fact it isn't, as the crew are constantly faffing about at the bulkhead turning things on/off, making announcements etc...

Received PJ's on both segments, amenities on SIN-FRA only.

Ground crew at FRA were excellent with a personal escort to/from the First Class Lounge. I perhaps would of expected a golf cart ride at SIN as it was a good 15 minute walk to the gate.

I still can't decide between Dom and Krug :p

All of the above are truly first world problems (tongue in cheek)...

I am being super critical here as I guess expectations are sky-high when you are travelling a 'class above first'. Is it worth paying Standard redemption for Suites compared to Saver for F...hmmm probably not.

My return flight is with CX in First so will be good to compare and contrast.

I flew SQ F in 744 F last April (2011); obviously not the flagship of the airline, but it did come at a Saver rate :) I only flew SIN-FRA (the late flight, was a 744 service, now replaced by 388).

People have been blown away by SQ F before, I was expecting the same. Like you, perhaps it wasn't as spectacular as I thought, but it was not an underwhelming experience.

We picked the "wrong" flights! The particular SIN-FRA you and I flew is a late night flight, FRA-JFK is a morning flight. If you fly this route the other way, one of those is a lunch/dinner flight, so caviar is provided.

SQ F used to offer caviar on every major F sector, but I think they only supply it with the "main" meals of the day, i.e. lunch and dinner. On SIN-FRA (the late night flight, not the other one), the meal is supper first, then breakfast.

First item on the 'Snack' section of the menu was 'Chicken Instant Noodles or flavour of the month' - WTF, I wouldn't want to pay mega bucks for Suites and eat instant noodles!!

I thought much the same about their snack ('light bites') menu, but then most F snack menus aren't really flash, and that's if they have a snack menu at all. QF F have a steak sandwich (I believe you can order this at any time), I think NH F still have their signature cheeseburger, and CX F have noodle soup or dim sum selection.... those are probably the best F snack dishes I can think of.

SQ are featuring Asparagus on their seasonal menu - after 10+ SQ flights in the last 30 days, if I have to eat (and smell if you know what I mean) another Asparagii I'm gonna have an adverse reaction.

Aren't these the famed white asparagus of the German cuisine? Suppose you can't escape it, plus SQ probably doesn't see someone flying F that often enough that you'd actually try / get sick of the menu that quickly before their rotation!

I have to disagree here. Rules are rules - if they want to be discretionary, fine, but otherwise follow the rules.

I'm particular about this before take off that all electronic devices should be switched off and only used again once at cruise with seat belt sign turned off, so if I happened to see you flouting the rules in this regard, I'd be disappointed. (Note this is not a thread to start another debate about this).

And the actual amenities is just the Salvatore Ferragamo product bag... top up with the essentials in the bathroom :)

Interesting they offer that service for you at FRA. I didn't get to experience this since my final destination was FRA.

I don't know if they do golf cart rides at all at SIN (from SQ anyway). I definitely had to hike to the gate by myself. Big deal....

I still can't decide between Dom and Krug :p

I'll take the Krug myself. Not a fan of Dom P.

Is it worth paying Standard redemption for Suites compared to Saver for F...hmmm probably not.

Well the value is a private space for yourself, but I'm not quite enamoured to the whole suite concept that it'd make me pay double for it (said without experience - except QF F on the A380 (not quite a suite, but I like the concept) - but I haven't gone out of my way to try and find suite redemptions).

My return flight is with CX in First so will be good to compare and contrast.

I've got bets that you'll enjoy CX more than SQ. Just my hunch.
