Oh yes, that scam. I had that happen on the work AMEX back in 2007. Surprising they haven't shut it down.

I have to admit, I didn't know of this scam, that said I have a general level of distrust of taxi drivers anyway that I watch them like a hawk. Yes I realise 95% of taxi drivers are honest and it's not really fair for me to tar them all with the same brush (sorry skyring), it's just out of any type of "business" I've dealt in the past, cabbies are the one type that seem to consistently try it on.
 
The biggest taxi scam is the 10% they charge for using a card...even with work paying, I always pay cash!
 
Best tip. Never let your card out of your sight. Especially in foreign countries.
